Krause's BMS 4.32 Tutorials

Just a tip: rather than pausing, use shift-p to freeze the sim. You can still interact and use the systems as normal, but objects are frozen.
-
Great tutorials, thank you very much!
Some explanations might be not 100% accurate but the videos demonstrate perspicuously how to use the systems -
Iāve learned a thing or two as well.Btw. wouldnāt it be convenient to use the āfreezeā function instead of āpauseā so you can operate the systems while not moving?
@Silent: Nice list, having video tutorials about all those points would make many pilots very happy.
My head hurts a lot when reading longs manuals, not so much when watching videosEdit: Planehazz, youāre a ninja!

Thanks for the great videos and explanations. looking forward to harm tutorial hopefully. thanks again.

I will use freeze next time - I was not aware of the difference between shift-p and p until now. Thanks for the tip.

Hi there,
I wrote a topic listing all subjects that can be related in video tutorials OR in a BMS Wiki.
I made some video tutorials in Brazilian Portuguese for the OpenFalcon that can be used on the Falcon BMS.
If Krause and more people has some interest in create tutorials based on it, the topic follows below:
BMS Tutorials and Index of Subjects
Great initiative.
Best regards.
SilentFeel free to link my videos to your index. Thanks. For certain topics you can link my same video, just use a time link rather than straight video link. I hope that makes sense.

Excellent videos! Very informative, your bombing video taught me a few new things

Hmm any advice on how to āavoidā getting my ass handed to me in A-A? Generally when i fly to my target, iāll bump into some enemy CAP(s)
Weāre usually flying head on eachother, i load up my Amraam and fire it at aprox 15m out, by that time heās also fired his rocket at me. Reason iām flying head on is to not loose the radar contact whilst in TWS mode, if i start to turn around violently he will turn into a red marker instead of yellow, and if i understood correctly thatās when you are about to loose himā¦ And when that happens my missile will fail. Once it goes āpitbullā i start my evasive manouvers but itās already too late that that point.Iām reading the manual but it doesnāt sit well, complicated stuff! Trying my best to have his rocket at my either 3-9 oāclock and chucking flares/chaffs like a crazy.

There are a few ways to deal with a bandit on the noseā¦
Thereās a few concepts. First, if its a fast moving or maneuverable bandit a fox 3 long is not a good idea unless you know it is going to fire an Adder (Russian equivalent of an AMRAAM) at you. It is better to wait for fox 3 medium, which has a higher probability of kill. Itās suitable against most bandits in BMS - only modern Russian and Chinese jets pose such a huge risk that you donāt want to āplay chickenā with them.
Second, you can maximize your defensive potential after a launch by ābeamingā the target. This includes notching left or right away from it as much as possible while still keeping it on the gimble limits. This creates the most distance between you and the contact, and lets you go defensive a lot easier. Remember that if you lose the target on the radar before it goes pitbull, the PK is much lower.
The AMRAAM symbology varies. If it is flashing red and saying LOSE then your radar is about to lose the target, often due to antenna tilt. If it is flashing red X - that is the āsplashā indicator, saying that the target should be hit within 2-3 seconds. If the target doesnāt explode shortly after, the missile was defeated.

Krause, awesome vids man, I had been waiting for something like this, subscribed to your YT channel, could you create a playlist on YT with all the tutorial videos?

Another great video, thanks again!

Original post updated with AGM-88 tutorial.

Quick question regarding your latest video! The PB mode! Why would you use this over the HAD mode? Fair enough you can pre-plot the location, however you wouldnāt get any indication of whether or not the radar is actively emitting? As opposed to the HAD mode you can actually see if itās active or not. The only reason i could think of would be becouse from my experience most of the time the radar doesnāt pop up on your HAD untill you are close enough, or shooting at you
Thanks for another video!

The sensor head is EXTREMELY sensitive on the HARM when using PB (it basically comes up like a hellfire and then scans in a 20 degree FOV on the target area), meaning it has the highest PK if you know where the radar is.
Also, during combat you donāt want to mess around with the HAD, especially on a strike. You want to be on and off the target in 30 seconds or less. The HAD is good for interdiction but PB is great for pre-briefed strikes.
Also keep in mind that you donāt always have the HAD, for whatever reason you may not load the HTS. The POS WPN mode is always available from the HARM.

Ok, thanks for the answer! I just did a PB strike where i had two SA-3 radars located pre-flight. Was well within range, both missed when looking at the de-briefing screen. Doāh!

I did the training mission, fired at the 4 pre-planned SAMs within very short period of time, all right below the maximum range, all hit.

Weird how mine missed then lol. I donāt ātrustā the PB mode as i canāt actually see if the target iām hitting is emitting. Both my 88ās missed most likely becouse it wasnāt active.
-
I am not sure about the actual mechanization of that, but my impression was that in PB the position of SAM is very well known (geographically) and the HARM is guided mostly (at least majority of the flight) by that. Not sure about that though, could test it with a non-emitting SAM, I guess.

Quick question! The āFire-Canā radar system, what number / letter is this on the TBL page? Google failed on me! Perhaps itās not there since itās not a SAM related radar? Would it if so be the āCā?

itās an A , as in artillery.
you can see and hear RWR icons and sounds of equipment right from within falconās tacref, as well as get detailed info on them via wdp.

Thank you very much! Going through each system now and taking notes! ^.^
