There’s something to be said of orange on a Phantom!! The Egyptians got it right on the money!!

@Cloud:
Me too. I’ve built probably 12 or so as a young man!!! Only have 1 left in storage. I miss them all!!

I too Assembled and skinned Phantoms and F-111s and a few Ships etc but I was a young kid (no not a young goat).
So your defining your age Sir. :drink:All I have left is one or two slot cars.
And I have to post this also, & I know its not news: -
Just a quick texturing test to see how it looks for now i will say a B for start Or an N lol actually N i think where refubrished B’s right? (probably the first bird ill make will be an VF-84 Jolly Rogers)

Hello Manos,
Congratulation for the great work!
Nevertheless, triangle amount is still high (100,000+ from what I download).
Do you plan later to make a 30,000+ version for let’s imagine one variant like E (one of the most built, AFAIK)?

Radium

As i said in the E/F thread to dema i have to get rid a lot of the details or maybe remake the whole thing. I can use many things of the original model that will drop about almost 40k the tri count. Still im trying to find a way maybe keep them but its very very difficult to be less than 47k but with the original stuff can be 29k and outside to look ok. Still is an ongoiing project. I also started a completely new one, in this one the fuselage is around 6k in the new one i started is 3. So anything can be achieved i think. It needs time of course. I hope i can find a solution to that!
Cheers

On the other way now that i have another program (testing it for now…thaks Arty) i can reduce it but that means i will have to redo all dofs and switches from the start cause it converts the pieces again to edit.mesh but if that works i might do it if the result is ok i meab

Thank you for your reply.
I think, I will have to make soon a F-4E / F-4EJ for BMS…

Yeah i know my EJ sucks… even in almost 100k lol haahhaha
Anyway a quick test revealed that it might be done but as i said redof and reswitch the whole thing from the start.
The 1st pic is the normala 97k+ model and in the second pic the edited…
If you look closer of course some parts are a bit jaggy (i hope i wrote it ok) but at least a big part of the detail is stil there…

No way!
Your EJ does not sucks at all.
I would never say something like that to a 3D modeler colleague. Your F-4EJ is nicely converted.
My wish is just do bring F-4 under 30.000 tris limit!
I think you can reduce your tri count by welding and re-unwrapping some parts. In fact, this is how I do myself when I need to drastically limit tri count : making curves ess smooth. Also, cockpit could be simplifed, I suppose!

Radium,
As said further testing revealed that it can be reduced a lot and keeping lets say 50-60% of the details. If use the original parts and not the detailed ones i put then it can be down to les than 27k (examples are the original pilots, simplified afterburner cans + nozzle pedals) the “headache” after that its only the dofs and switches. Well you can’t have everything you want right? If you planing to do a Phantom as well let me know i will help in every aspect you need to! I know this plane in and out and i have a great love and respect to that legend -
DOF’s and switches can’t be exported or saved and imported to a new file? Then it will need the linking only. Right?
Still lots of work but not as doing it from zero.Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

Yeah it can be done but indeed also a lot of work. Each nozzle pedal its 3 pieces (external, internal, actuator between them) x 30…. uhhhhhh even if i save only the dofs it will be a pain in the @ss relinking them. I can always continue mine as well heheh…

Back to topic after long time: Low poly C/D on the works:
-
Great. Go ahead Mano!!!

Ok with this and that removed the model stands in about 27k tris witch is good! I also removed the slotted stabilator and added the unslotted from -F as well aded the unslatted wing removing the slatted one. Refining some of the details here and there now and ill start to fix the unwrap ti fit to a C/D version and make some skins . At this point besides Old’s Legendary and iconic Phantom i would like everyone has some references especially vietnam era Squadrons, tailcodes, serials to give me a heads up
Thanks in Advance
Manos
PS: I will make the afterburner pedals shorter as well and add an “extension” from the cans to the pedals as supposed to
-
Bravo Mano, Well done!!!
I will provide you with real serials from Vietnam era ;).

Done some small work today like fixed the extension of the cans and shortened the pedals as well added different texture to them. Still have to sort out the skin a bit and fix it as well to match the C/D versions.
@Apolo most of the links dont open to me sorry!
PS: I might be able to flatten also the Spine to look better than now in the skin i mean did some experiments as well
-
Hmm… Only the first is inactive… the rest links seems ok.
In each one go to the green box where says “PDF Download”! There is also a box with a check option saying Im not a robot.
Each download is a PDF copy of aviation books dedicated to the F-4 action in Vietnam. Very useful for reference!
