WEATHER
-
I knew a guy ( we always know a guy like that, they are genereic morons) who came in at the airport for flying. Walks in, instructor watches him with a weird face expression but doesn’t say anything. The guy goes trough all his pre-flight preparations, documentation, he even goes as far as going on the computer and checking the local METAR and TAF ( i guess he did it for finger gymnastic with the mouse).
Then he comes up to the front desk where his instructor is waiting and says " i am ready to fly, are you?".
Instructor says " did you check the weather ?"
Generic guy says : " Yes, i watched the weather channel and they say it is going to be a sunny day"
Instructor " aha, well i guess you are going solo, and in case you hit that thunderstorm in the training area don’t botter calling, i’ll be at the beach"
… I never ever thrust TV weather BS forecast, not adapted for flying at all.

Yep,
That was my point so to speak. Using deterministic weather you will set and know what will happen say in an hour or two flying over a certain area. Like Dee Jay said, using a real time weather update would be great. Makes you look at the current and near future weather conditions for your flight route. Problemistic weather changes too slowly IMO. Maybe that is what I was getting at. Especially around coastal areas. Cells can pop up in a few hours. Wind/turbulence can be a bit unpredictable. Flying through dense cells have a bit of turbulence as well. So, it is not a “wish” list really. Just some observations for possible improvement in the future. Is the weather in bms good? Yep, I believe it is modeled well, but could have a few improvements to it. Don’t know if that can be done. Just saying.

Thanks for that! But, I am waiting on the next update before I deal with any mods. Once the next release is out, we all need to do a little testing to see if things like Nuno’s “Clouds Mod” will work. So patients right now is key. I am having fun with my current bms version as of now. So we will have to wait and see what the next chapter of bms will be.
This Mod won’t pork anything, its just dds files and a guide for you to enter the weather settings manually, just make a copy of your weather folder before applying mod.

Do you know this for sure? Arty, who btw has produced some brilliant theater mods himself and is close to working with the devs, stated that there would be some adjustments that needed to be made when the next version of bms comes out. I will still hold my breath before modding anything. Besides, porked modds in the past have left me rather skeptical as of late.

You don’t need to apply the new cloud textures, you can just view the weather settings and set them manually, it’s ok, it’s not a game breaker.

With the current version, yes. I understand, but the new version of bms was what I was talking about. May give this a test. Thanks.

Is the weather in deterministic mode really slowly transforming between say from overcast to fair?
Because I setup the weather(deterministic) to change between every 20 minutes interval.
My observation is that I had overcast and suddenly the overcast was gone and I had fair weather.
No lighter overcast noticed and an instant change from overcast layer to fair clouds.
Please your opinions of what you experience using the deterministic mode.Cheers Obi1

Unfortunatly, with 4.33 weather model, the overcast layer is a “on - off” stuff in deterministic. This is basically a texture so it is there or not there ….
We would have to replace the texture by real clouds to change this behavior…
if you want more realistic weather, it’s better to use the map model
Deterministic is a relic of old model, though usefull for quick TE or testing

Thanks Mav-JP for taking the time to answer.Yes i know about map-model being the better option nowadays. but was testing deterministic model support in my Realweather tool. I used it to see if I could create better transformation between the different weather types. And just to have more weather changes during mission, but globally.Your answer is clear and confirms what i observed, that it is as it is and should be.Btw the mode i implemented translates fmap data to deterministic settings automatically. Thanks again!Cheers Obi1

Dee-Jay I was trying to read the article you suggested but I get this: Malacoda, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
