Cougar Throttle Hall Effect Potentiometer - Cubpilot Reincarnated!
-
Best part of this mod is it didn’t cost me a dime. I also didn’t want to alter in any irreversible way. So now my throttle has the same precision as my FSSB modded stick, and I have the original gimbals as spare parts jus in case. As for the work, a little fiddly, but worth it.

So will this mod to a Cougar throttle be compatible with the TUSBA? My stock pot is a little spikey after 15 years, but I love the newfound TUSBA functionality.

I don’t see why not. If the TUSBA works with a standard Cougar throttle, it should work with this. Have you asked the guys at TUSBA?

I read that Cubpilot Ernie is an obituary, that was a sad news since I corresponded with him. Anyone here know where we can order a microstick?

I use TUSBA R1 with VIPERGEAR hall sensor TQS mod combined with warthog stick and it works like a charm. Easy installation and high enough precision.

This only also seems really nifty

where can I find it and does it work for the F-16 HOTAS Cougar Throttle?

vipergear.eu for hall sensor
realsimulator.com for TUSBA
Yes it is compatible. I use cougar throttle with VIPERGEAR hall sensor connected via TUSBA r1 to a usb port and a warthog stick. -
thanks for the info., but how come the A-10 flight stick looks exactly like the F-16? I thought the thunderbolt is a very older plane
-
Because the entire A-10C fleet underwent an Precision Engagment upgrade from 2005-2011.
New sensors, SATCOM, IFFCC, all-weather capability, ECM, smart bombing targeting… along with the F-16/F-15 HOTAS mix. Aircraft receiving this upgrade were redesignated A-10C. -
yes I can see pictures of it on the net now, pretty successful flight stcik

Had problems with mine too. I spayed the MS assembly with contact cleaner and that helped for a while. Eventually it crapped out on one axis. I harvested a thumb stick from a PS3 controller but they weren’t quite the same. On closer inspection I noticed that the pots are similar so I bit the bullet. Gently squeeze the two tabs in and pry the pot away from the metal part (watch out for the loose internals of the pot) . Desolder from the board and repeat for the Microstick board . Caution one pot has traces on both sides of the board so soldering is a bit tricky.Problem solved.

If I disconnect the mini board attached to the micro stick without disconnecting the cougar from the PC first, would that total burn and ruin the mini board?
because I replaced the micro stick and there are no signals -

I’ve test it. I works fine.

Hi Guys!
I tested this in my old HOTAS Cougar(2002) and working well!

Any advance with this dead zone?
Thanks!
It’s been a while! I’m back in the seat again following a clean install and upgrade to Windows 10 and BMS 4.34. Also now have an uber graphics card fitted that’s allowing me to have everything enabled in the sim and video drivers. Boy is it sweet!
Anyway, the dead zone. Since the upgrades and reinstall… I haven’t noticed any deadzone. I am also now using TUSBA along with my throttle modification and it is running sweet! It was working ok before TUSBA too.
Why the TUSBA upgrade? Well it seems the TM calibration software just could calibrate the microstick on one of the axis. That’s now resolved with the TUSBA which is far superior. I have also removed the idle detent from the TQS. It’s just not required as I prefer to use the cockpit idle detent switch and have full throttle swing to idle on the TQS.
Also… just want to mention the “stiction”. I have none. Absolutely none. And that’s with the brake fully on too if I want. I am using a low friction tape around the shaft of the throttle. Also I have greased the contact point of the shaft and shaft bearings with silicon grease. It’s the tape that really makes all the difference. If anyone wants some tape… I have a huge roll and will be happy to post out to people. If you’re from outside the UK, all I ask is for you to cover the shipping cost.
