Ff you could have one thing in the next update it would be…
-
@Cloud:
And why would that matter?
C9
It wouldn’t, but I was merely pointing out that asking for an upgrade is easy and done in two minutes, but implementing one is not.

Gotcha, I thought you were saying that FF had something it doesn’t. Thanks for clarifying!

If you like Windows 7 so much thats great I am sure all the Chinese hackers will enjoy using your computer as a proxy or temp dump or maybe your computer will be used to mine bitcoin in the background when its in sleep mode.
That is of course unless your willing to pay for sec updates which is really just a way for MS to appease the corps that cant update their OS due to being deployed or other massive ancillary costs…. for example ATM machines , cash registers etc…If you like Windoze 10 that much, thats great. Im sure M$ will enjoy joining the other big companies in (mis)using your private data for whatever they (and everyone else can get their mitts into their servers) want. And unlike a post support world, thats not something you can pay extra to avoid.
But hey, your call I guess.

In light of the times, I wouldn’t have a thousand dollar game box hooked to the internet, just to take it in the back door.

A friend of my friend told to my friend, there was a virus “overloading” CD drive….caused the CD to fly from drive, cutting furniture…
It is well documented here in 1:20
I had that virus once , I had to nail the CD door shut but then the CD ended up digging a hole in the floor and killed a chinese hacker on the other side of the planet. That’s how i lost my original copy of Falcon 4.0.

LOL and now the Chinese version of Falcon, Falcon 4.0 Wonton Proverb is already up to DX37……dem hackers are GOOD!!!

Having delved into CMANO a bit more the past few weeks, I was wondering if we could someday get something similar to this mouse cursor tool that shows coordinates, elevation, weather, …
On the picture, the two possible ways in CMANO to display that information: either on the mouse cursor, or in the bottom left corner. Not everything you see here is relevant to BMS (layer depth / strength, CZ’s, …), but could be replaced by things that are, obviously.

I’ll remember your quote once Microsoft changes win10 licensing & its updates to a monthly subscription model (my guess is within the next five years, probably earlier).
I’m no fan of anything windows but while I’m migrating my BMS setup to Linux, win7 will serve me just fine for the time being and at least until the extended support expires in 2020. I’d rather have no updates at all than unwanted ones pushed down the pipe at Microsoft’s whim that break a carefully tuned BMS pit every other week.
If you feel safe using any windows platform online… well, that’s your call I guess.
All the best,
Uwe

It takes about 20 minutes to turn a Windows PC into a linux PC - just download and install Ubuntu 18.04 linux (the download is free). Then follow my linux install instructions on Arty’s hot list to install BMS on linux. Note that you only have to go through the BMS linux install procedure once - just keep a backup copy of your BMS .wine directory. if your PC gets corrupted somehow you can re-install linux, then re-install BMS simply by copying that .wine directory into your fresh Ubuntu 18.04 install. From what I hear, BMS runs faster on linux than it does on Windows.

Cyber security for those that have useful info on their computer is no joke my friend and no its not fud hackers chinese or otherwise are very real.
I didnt make the world I just live in it.
I doubt you will see a monthly sub model for OS’s but I could be proven wrong who knows.I hear Linux is turning more windows gaming compatible these days but I wouldnt go down that route personally. Just more things to go wrong. To each their own though.
Windows security sucks but for games and simulations Windows is THE platform period at the moment.
I dont put much sensitive info on my gaming machine but not everyone has that luxury. -

I dont put much sensitive info on my gaming machine but not everyone has that luxury. For a BMS installation that is very secure indeed, install the Qubes OS (https://www.qubes-os.org/) linux distribution on a PC, then run BMS on a ubuntu VM (Qube) within Qubes OS. Personal information elsewhere on your PC would be protected from your gaming environment by hardware virtualization.

I do not think that this setup supports GPU acceleration

Whatever how about I just continue enjoy native windows gaming
Mine is setup already and working good no reason to go fiddling with linux.(insert rant about how linux is not as easy to install and has a lot of hardware compatibility issues)

Yep, that’s true… that’s only part of the equation though.
Installing WINE and BMS takes all of 10 minutes, but my setup is a bit more involved and there are a few components that don’t work fully on Linux (yet, I’m using Linux Mint 19 ATM).
What WORKS fine on Linux:
-
YAME64 works great for display extraction
-
HOTAS warthog works OOTB (2 separate dx devices, no TARGET required)
-
T500RS wheel / pedals for “poor man’s” rudder input, LogiTech G25 shifter for extra buttons on a Leo Bodnar adapter, Thrustmaster MFDs on a 2nd monitor
-
I can use the android tablet as an ICP / DED (RWR and DED textures not quite working yet on the tablet but I hope to be able to solve that one with Komurcu’s help hopefully), using a little python script I wrote to send the keypresses to the BMS window
-
Headtracking works great using OpenTrack, a ps/eye cam and my delanclip
-
Weapon Delivery Planner, Mission commander, weather commander, TacView and Tyrant’s VMTs work nicely in WINE (some perfectly, others so-so)
Items still needing alternatives on Linux:
- Voice Attack (I’ve looked at Simon speech recognition which should do the job on Linux, but haven’t gotten around building the dictionary yet)
- JetSeat / Simshaker: that one is beyond me as I’ve never done low-level USB programming. The GUI works but of course it doesn’t see the seat’s USB device.
All the best,
Uwe

Imagine…
You wake up in the middle of the night because you forgot to set your phone to silent. Since you’re awake anyway, you check who or what woke you at such an ungodly hour, and when you do, you see this.In your slumber, the only words that really register are “forum”, “announcement” and “new”, in that order, and you recall that you have mail notifications enabled for any updates to the Announcement-board on BMS.
Now,
A) You put your phone down, and fall asleep immediately. In the morning, you vaguely remember you received a mail.
B) You stop breathing for a second, your heart skips a beat, then starts pounding. You’re fully awake now, and re-read the mail, word for word. Disappointed, you put down your phone, and try to get back to sleep for over an hour.
C) You jump out of bed and rush to the computer, waking up half the house in the process. Not only are you disappointed when you realise your mistake, everyone is angry at you in the morning. -
