Interdiction Flights
-
Hello everyone, I had a question about interdiction missions as I always frag those because they’re so easy to get a successful rating on. I recently did an Interdiction and I make it a point to destroy search radars no matter if it’s at an army base, airfield or a dedicated station. I killed some radars and came home only to find I failed the mission. So my question is, with tasking interdiction missions, do they not work with static targets ? I mean search radars are important to destroy as it limits the AI from seeing that you’re “spotted” and vector threats to intercept you or other flights.

I believe interdiction is more used for interdicting enemy advancement towards to FLOT. You need to hit armour and vehicles to be successful.

I see. In order to be successful with static targets (EWR Radars, etc) what kind of mission do I need to frag to be considered passing to the sim ? Would it just be regular SEAD or something else ?

I’d plan a strike mission with the objective as the radar site the same way you’d strike an airbase or army base.

Check out section 10.4.6.2 of the main BMS Manual

I think you’re looking for OCA Strike

Or OCA

Awesome. I’d be using HARM for the scattered radars around the map like I would with SAM’s.

You could also look up ‘hijacking a BARCAP’…
Not sure how most feel about it, but I believe it to be a fairly common tactic. Especially in the beginning stages of a campaign

With the ability to frag your own AI missions with BMS, the old school hijacking BARCAPs has gone by the way side. Most new folks don’t even realize they can adjust the CAP times.

I hardly ever look to see what what Falcon says about mission success anymore. Our squadron has it’s own flight log and the MC determines whether the mission was a success or not.
As stated above, you gotta hit vehicles and/or infantry when flying interdiction. Strike for static targets. As for changing the On Station Time for a BARCAP, I’m okay w/ that when flying a BARCAP. Otherwise you’re just fooling the program to get a false positive. $0.02
Sometimes Falcon gets it right and sometimes not. Just don’t let it ruin your day!
