F4Wx – Real Weather Converter
-
Thank you Ahmed for you efforts! However, I can’t open the rar file and it seems to be broken. Re-downloading doesn’t help either. Am I missing something?
-
I just downloaded it and it opens without problems on WinRAR 5.60
You can try also https://www.dropbox.com/s/oh05eb84dtw6bah/F4Wx-1.0b49.rar?dl=0 and see if it helps
-
Thank you very much Ahmed for your quick help. Sorry that I’ve bothered you, but it turned out that it was actually my 7zip install that went bonkers. I dunno why, but it was totally broken for some reason. Only reinstalling helped. Thanks again though!

So whats the new weather system like?

F4Wx v1.0 for BMS 4.34 now available as well!
Lots of releases today!
This release version takes advantage (or at least tries to) of all the capabilities of the BMS 4.34 weather engine. You have to thank Mav-jp for all the hard work there! You can get more info about them on the BMS 4.34 manual page 2-9, but to sum up:
- Winds aloft implemented
- Cloud base, top and coverages will vary per cell
- Contrail levels and stratus layers will vay as well from map to map (especially noticeable if you are using the WeatherMapsUpdates sequences)
As always, links available on the first post of this thread
Please note that from v1.0 onwards F4Wx only supports BMS 4.34.
p.s. If it is possible, can some mod remove the [Beta] tag of the tittle of the thread?
-
Just a quick thing I forgot to mention, althoug it is covered on the README (but we all know nobody reads READMES ;)). You can select the wind layer to show on the preview image by holding SHIFT while clicking on the wind option. Aside from that, nothing that comes to my mind has changed in the way you use the program
-
Even more information about Weather and how to create FMAPs in the Technical Manual (Chapter 7), including a dedicated section on F4Weather (F4Wx).
This is an incredibly powerful combination and takes immersion to the next level, even for missions you may have flown many times before.
-
GFS run error. I’ll try later.
-
Try a previous run. When NOAA first makes the files available, they actually don’t upload the ones F4Wx needs. It takes up to a few more hours for those to be available. When that happens just use the next one on the list.
-
p.s. If it is possible, can some mod remove the [Beta] tag of the tittle of the thread?
Done!
-
Very well, Ahmed, you have done a great job once more.
This update will help me in appreciating 4.34’s new possibilities more.
Thanks a lot, with best regards.
-
And if you create a particularly good set of weather files which work really well with a campaign please share them (and your experiences). Weather can totally change the way you fly a mission/campaign and adds so much depth for those that appreciate it
-
If this yours is addressed to me, Darkman, just couldn’t agree more.
If I will be good enough, this will be a real pleasure for me.
This new release is literally full of so much good, I’m going to realize it step by step.
Thanks a lot to you and all the devs., with best regards.

I got this security risk from Norton. It removes F4Wx.exe. It gives the option to ignore the risk. Should I ignore it?

Yes, it’s a false alarm
-
Ahmed, I was reading the BMS Technical Manual page 7-50. One very interesting feature is “Towering Cumulus.” Does f4wx find a way to implement those? if so what are the parameters that decide they should appear?

As BadBoy said, it should be a false alarm. Probably triggered by the update checker. https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/6d33ad9a7a5027dfd0cf5124ad53b01c24099810775ef818c597afbc98315b48/detection

You will see them when, if you hover the mouse over a location if the map, the info says FEW025TCU for example. They need to meet a minimum thickness requirement and be reported as convective in the GRIB. F4Wx will report them with any weather type but, off the top of my head, I think that BMS will only depict them if the weather is Fair (i.e. green).
In April in Korea you probably wont see many. However, quick check of Panama:
-
Tower cumulus is not very well implemented in game
This was a bit experimental
-
Thanks, Mav-jp, good to know also this in advance.
With best regards.

Cool! I’m finding them in both poor and inclement as well.
