Cougar has stopped working
-
I think the main board in my Thrustmaster Cougar stick is dead. I plug the Cougar stick into Windows and it is recognized by Windows. Nothing responds though. No buttons or analog movements at all. The Cougar control panel and updater do not recognize it. I have been looking around for a fix. I do not see any Cougar main boards for sale, Thrustmaster stated they no longer carry them. I am not sure what to do. I think my throttle is good, it’s the main board in the stick that seems to be wonky. Any ideas for fixes?
Thanks,
DocWW

Was it working on your current system before, or are you trying to set it up on a new system? Software is old and there are some hoops to jump through to get it working on newer OS.
If it was working before and just quit, then you are probably dealing with a bricked board. In the other case, there are some things that need to be done in order for it to work.
Let us know so we can help better.

I looked into how to get the software working under windows 10 and implemented the dll copy to the syswow folder. The Cougar software seems to run with no problems. The stick is just not there. I tried this on two PC’s. Same thing happens. We had a power surge the other day. And this was just one of the things in my setup that failed. I have been trying to recover. I think the board is blown. Available Cougar main boards seems to be rare. I was wondering if there is an equivalent replacement that may use something like Joystick gremlin to get it to work.

Did you try erasing the stick drivers and then reloading them into the stick?
IIRC drivers have to be loaded into the stick manually in the windows device manager.

Thank you schnidrman! It lives! Loading drivers using device manager and then re-flashing the firmware brought back my old Cougar! Awesomeness… Thanks again.
