Falcon BMS Alternative Launcher (Easy Setup, Keep Joystick Assignments)

Can you show me screenshots of both
“a screen like I have now when the mission was loading”
and
“maximized window switched within a second”
?
I’m not sure how this would help you but here are the requested screenshots. The first one is when I’m still in 2D. The second one is during mission load. Like I said, within a second the game would normally switch to fullscreen now. This doesn’t happen anymore. I just tried the Cockpit Display Extraction but to no luck.
Just curious: could the dx9display.dsp file in the config directory have anything to do with it since it changes during the game?
Thanks!

In General, BMS launches in 1024*768 resolution in 2D and launches 3D with the resolution you set at GRAPHICS page.
For eg:
Let’s say you enabled the window mode of BMS.
BMS will have “border” and title as below if launched in window mode and with 2D/3D border enabled in Cockpit Display Extraction.
Now, if you disabled “border” from Cockpit Display Extraction than BMS launches without a border, but it is still window mode. A window without border and title.
AL v1.5 automatically overrides the Cockpit Display Extraction 2D/3D border option to be disabled.
2D UI launches and fills the entire screen if you launch BMS without window mode enabled, or it just fills 1024*768 size of your left top corner of the monitor if you enabled window mode.
Then you select INSTANT ACTION and TAKEOFF, BMS will switch to 3D and now it fills the screen again if window mode disabled, or may fill XY resolution of your top left corner of the monitor if you launch BMS in window mode. XY value depends on the resolution you set at GRAPHICS page.
Now if you set the resolution at GRAPHICS page to exactly same to your monitor resolution, let’s say you have 32802160 monitor and you also set them to 32802160, 3D fills 3280*2160 size of your top left part of the monitor but it is just as same as filling your entire monitor screen. So it just looks as if launched without window mode. But is still a window, without border.
Note that if you set the Windows10 DPI option to 150% and without setting DPI override property of BMS to Application, BMS 3D fills 1.5x*1.5y of your screen. So you may have to set global DPI to 100%, or set DPI override property of BMS to “Application” so that BMS launches in 100% DPI.

OK, I’ll have another look at it tonight. The strange thing is that I haven’t changed my resolution at all. Is the resolution that will be used in 3D perhaps saved in this dx9display.dsp file in the user\config directory?
Thanks for your elaborated answer!

I think I found the problem. Hopefully my attachments are valid :). My graphical card is shown twice in the setup menu (1st screenshot). The first card is currently selected and the maximum resolution (and my current setting) here is 1920x1080 (2nd screenshot). This explains why I don’t get fullscreen. If I select the second card I get a maximum resolution of 3840x2160 (3rd screenshot) which is the same resolution as my monitor. So I tried to select the second card and use this last resolution but when I save it, leave the menu and go back again, the first card is selected again with the mentioned resolution of 1920x1080. So for some reason I can’t save it hence still no fullscreen. I’m thinking about installing the game again but perhaps anybody has a quicker solution? Thanks!

Perhaps deleting dx9display.dsp? Should be re-generated by BMS.
-
No, this has no effect

In order to get rid of the graphics card showing twice I’ve tried to reinstall the driver. After deinstallation I only have one entry left: the onboard graphics card of my CPU with the same resolution as my monitor (3840x2160). When reinstalling the driver of the actual graphics card the problem of the card being shown twice and not being able to save a higher resolution (1920x1080 is maximum) is back again. So no luck so far. Next step will be reinstalling BMS.
-
Alright, I know the reason why my card is showing twice. I have two identical Acer monitors but one is connected through an HDMI cable, the other through a DisplayPort cable. Graphics card is a AMD Radion R9 380X. Both monitors run on a 3840x2160 resolution. If I disconnect one of the monitors I only have one entry left. But for some reason if both are connected the maximum resolution of both entries differ and I’m only able to save the selected resolution of the first entry. Which one is showing first depends on the monitor that is selected as main screen in Windows. Anyway, the problem has nothing to do with the Alternative Launcher because it seemed the problem was already there after a fresh installation of BMS. Meanwhile I have everything sorted now so finally I can go flying again :). Thanks chihirobelmo for your help.

Hi guys just a little problem. When I enter the game with the joystick already connected I must to set my joy in the set up page every time I enter the game: is it normal?
Thanks

Does “setup joy” means setting up joysticks in the BMS UI -> SETUP -< CONTROLLER page?
If you are using Alternative Launcher it is not normal.
Please check:- You are using the latest alternative launcher (v1.51)
- You are using the latest BMS (4.34.2)
- “Launch without any setup override” checkbox in the Alternative Launcher window is disabled(unchecked)

No, I am using alternative launcher 1.40
Yes, I am using BMS 4.34.2
Right, I have launched without any setup override in Alternative Launcher, but the issue is still alive!P.S.
Just a question
If I wish to use the last versione as you have describe do I have to uninstall the previous one 1.40 or is sufficient overwrite on the old files?? -
Chihirobelmo, I have been playing around with AL today for the first time. This is GREAT!!! Thanks so much. Key remapping is so much sexier in AL than inside Falcon. Wow. And if this fixes my wandering HOTAS issues I think I’ll break down and cry.
If I understand this right AL only works with “BMS - Full.key”?
If so, I’ll just throw in the suggestion box to allow the user to select what key file he or she wants to work with. Here’s one reason why. With 4.34.2 (I never noticed this in 4.33.3) when I try to increase my radar range with the F117A I get a CTD. Since the Nighthawk doesn’t have a radar my solution was to make an alternative .key file that doesn’t make any radar callbacks. I would’ve liked to switched between my regular keybinds to the F117 special binds when using AL. Which I can still do by manually backing up and swapping out whatever configuration I need to be the BMS-Full.key. So not that big of a deal but I thought I’d let you know why I think it would be handy to add this as a feature.
Anyway, love what you’ve done and really glad to have it as is. Thanks a ton!

Hello, I can’t get Alternative launcher installed and working. I downloaded it from Github. My Falcon BMS (4.3.4 U2) folder structure does not match the structure referenced in the installation instructions and the Alternative Launcher that I downloaded does not contain the hub.exe file referenced in the installation instructions. Attached is a screen shot of what I’m working with:
- My BMS is broken up into two folders: x86 and x64
- The launcher developer is showing all of these contents in a single x86 folder
- The developer says to make a copy of the hub.exe file because it will be overwritten, but there is no new hub.exe file in the launcher download (see contents in right window)
- Developer says unzip the download and put all files into bin\x86
- The download contains nested folders - exactly which folders and files go into BMS? the top level (containing no executables) or the child “FalconBMS Alternative Luancher Cs” folder
What am I missing here?

v1.40 had issues with overwrite check option, it is solved now.Sorry for the late reply.

My Pleasure!
For now, you can delete a callback row from BMS - FULL.key by manually editing the file. The original key file is saved to User/Config/Backup so don’t worry to edit the FULL.key.
I may add a command-line option to select a key file for the next update.

There’s several radar callbacks I use on my HOTAS:
AA Radar Mode Step
AG Radar Mode Step
RDR Azimuth Step
RDR Bar StepAlso these below that I know for sure causes F117 to pancake into the CTD.
RDR Range Increase
RDR Range DecreaseThanks for pointing out that it’s completely doable within AL as it is now – especially with that SWEET SWEET filter you put in there for us. I think I can write a .bat file though that will swap in Vandal.key in for BMS-Full and another .bat file to swap in VandalF117.key on that rare occasion I need it.
Anyway AL is super slick – well done!

Hi chihirobelmo, thanks for your great utility which I’ve used since release. I’m using AL V1.51 & BMS 4.34 u2 & now my axis assignments aren’t saving, where they used to in the old version of AL & 4.34 base. Any clue?
