WIP - Guam Theatre

Sweeeeet. Now release it already.

To expedite things I would love and really appreciate some help from anyone who has Photoshop and is willing to give a hand in rather “not too exciting” task of creating masks for the shoreline tiles. I’ll explain, guide and prepare work package to make the task simple. I’ll even buy a beer and to make equal and balanced workload sharing deal - drink it too.:D

LOL. Not it!
Seriously, though, I’m really excited for this theater, Dave. As you know, I have been a proponent of small theaters for years. This is the direction I would have liked Panama to go- really small, tight, focused campaigns, highlighting very short commutes and lots of action.
I’m totally grooving on what you have going on here. I might even have to give MP a try!

Just because I like talking to myself, I actually started doing something like your Guam theater in Korea. I basically started with the Iron Fortress campaign template, erased everything from North Korea and a significant part of South Korea, and then started building a Red Flag type scenario strictly in the southern portion of the country. I don’t actually know how the US/RoK forces scrimmage, but I have to imagine that they fight little mini-war exercises in the south.
The essence would be to construct the same type of campaign/scenario you’re doing with Guam, a small, tightly focused setting where you can get into action fairly quickly and get a lot of flying in in a short amount of time. I had started hacking the DB to remove the AMRAAMs from the F-16A and F-18A to facilitate fights degenerating into WVR.
I ran into some technical issues that started to wreck the cost/benefit of continuing to work on it, although I still think it’s a good idea. I think your Guam theater will be much better.

Couple of day’s Mike and I’ll send you something you can reverse engineer.Still threading through the Update Data Base to make sure it’s not effecting Guam
You know the drill……LOLI’ll quote one of the ALPHA Tester’s here and you’ll see what’s going on ATM:
"Yes, they are correct. I can’t seem to get past the patriots on Rios. I assign my flight to a sead strike but all we have is AA weaponry. Suggestions?
I guess just my reputation doesn’t scare them away, go figure."
"HAHAHAHA!!!
Thanks M8,
I’ve replaced them with the Hawk’s and added the Hawk’s to all the Air Base’s.
I originally put the Patriot’s in to dissuade the human player’s from Base Raping\Sitting.Though you are now able to get closer to the base. You are marked for intercept by the Alert AC on the base. That should prove interesting…HEHEHE.And you thought this was going to be a Turkey Shoot…LOL!!!
I have also added EA6’s to both side’s carrier’s for a little A\G Action if one choose’s.They are Role Scored to SEAD, so they should be getting most of those mission’s.That also tie’s up some of those pesky F18’s in Escort
They are a bit tricky to get off the deck though.May have to make them AI only for now. Thanks Again,
Dave"Dave

IMO…why post I here lol…anyway, the theatre will surely rock if the resolution can be increased for sights below 7-8.000 feet and some additional object features will be added. The colour and contrast balance is really not bad IMO: I played with it and usually that increases the optical attractivity -in this case stock looks best. But I leave such finetune things surely to Dave, Brian and Ted.
Will post some screens here tomorrow. I think once ready this will be a fine addition to the mediterranean theatres.

O.K. went back to my original Guam Data Base and Lo and Behold the CTD’s from UP1 ceased.Still using the new .exe though.Seem’s stable again……
So moved on to building the custom Airbase’s for Guam,REDFOR first.Saipan:
Northfield,Tinian:
SanJose,Tinian:
All are oriented correctly and as close to RL as we can get.The stations.dat is corrected,so we have Tower comm’s.The stations+ILS.dat will need some work though.
BLUFOR base’s tomorrow……

Hi Y’all,
I received the reworked Terrain from Polak and Airbuster Last Nite.I thought I would share some <5000ft. screen’s with you.
In doing this, I also want to correct a Myth about Water SET TYPE’s and AREA’s on a TILE.The first two shot’s are of me(human\player and wing AI) taking off from NAS GUAM which is a WATER SET Type, but the TILE under the Runway has a Plain’s AREA defined for it:The next three???dunno, just love Sunrise over Guam now….HEHEHE!!:
Much still to do….;)

Great job

No disrespect Eric, but it would be really hard to make less appealing shots of what has been accomplished as those above . :wfish:
How about few random shots few secs into the flight instead in full daylight. No “romantic” sunrise here, but it is truly brilliant concept of yours and I am confident that we all would like this small terrain. Release the mod and all can have a go at it and judge.

Quite low res in low alt, or it is still wip ?

Quite low res in low alt, or it is still wip ?
no, perhaps made with Polaroid……
EDIT: actually there are some issues here and there pertaining to mipmaping and quality of stuff when at ground level. So it is WIP after all…
Let us compare our “notes”, or what I mean how our respective graphic cards take shots. Here is my shot at 540 ft agl

Cool stuff, found that today…

Good job Dave. If you need any model please inform me…

Please ship that theatre with Binini beauties.

I like the relatively small scale of the land area in this theatre. It’ll be a good change to fly in a campaign where you actually can visually recognize where you are when you’re hitting a ground target. Instead of some nameless texture soup.
I hope the low alt level of detail gets a little improved though, at the moment it looks like Google Earth’s flight sim!!

Dave,
Not sure how far along you are on this now with your campaigns, but following up on my Hawaii post, it might be interesting to have a campaign with the ATAC guys on the OPFOR side. These skins don’t look too hard for a good skinner to knock out, and I would think the Mirage pit would be a decent substitute for the Kfir.Cool video:
