Photoshop 3d?
-
Hi there fellow 3d modellers and modders.
After my last format i thought it would be nice to upgrade some of the programs i use. Do instead of re-installing Photoshop i had (CS5.1) I installed the 2020.
First glance is that it seems a little quicker in some stuff but also i found out you can actually paint a 3d object! Itried for now with an .obj and havent tried other formats. Thing is that PS recognizes the different textures of the object and also shows the UV maps on them. You can either work directly in the model and paint it or use the individual texture layers.
Have anybody tried to do that?
I mean in complex camos or what ever i think will be great as you eliminating how the camo will blend in different surfaces example fuselage with wings or vertical fin with the Fuselage etc.
Does anybody tried it?
Is it worth for me to trie some stuff in it?
Always given that the model is Unwrapped corectly in the texture of course.
Any ideas and help will be apriciated!Cheers!

I have substance painter, which does the same thing, and it kind of helps to get an overview of your object with the Textures and all that. It gets rid of the need to go to a model viewer and check there because you can simply check it in the software.
If you have a trial version, you should check it out.

Yeah i had it before the format. Just wondering and of course im trying to minimize workflow. I used SP for the bump maps mainly so i could blend them in PS with the panel/rivets so i could get some depth. Im trying this time to keep my whole install at minimal and things that aren’t essential to me probably will not get installed back.
Thanks though!

The future is 3d painting and pbr.
I prefer substance painter.
Its good point is u can go sky rocket on details on your 3d model panels for example and work on a low lod model to paint it, but it uses the high detail for maps creation like normals etc. So for the game u use the low lod model.
The materials library is endless.
I haven’t used ps 3d but soon enough it will be one of them as adobe bought algorithmic which makes substance painter.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T818A using Tapatalk

FYI for material creation there are many alternatives to Substance Painter, although its a great commercial tool. Armorpaint and Quixel are great as well, but there are also plenty of free projects.

C-130 was painted in PS 3D, especially weathering seams:
