CZ wouldn't Z?
-
Hi all,
Since I’m never easily satisfied, yesterday’s strike on a TV station antenna farm seemed a bit too easy and left me wanting more… like taking a shot at the FROG7 batteries nearby.
I had my steerpoint (like I normally do) on my target, and loaded the missile battery into STP 22 so I could quickly ID it (turn out the mountains in the FRY really do pose a challenge to attack headings). As I slewed my FCR and TGP around though, sometimes the FCR seemed to be stuck (it wouldn’t slew in front of me more than a few miles). I would push CZ on both the FCR, TGP or on the HSD and it would stay highlighted.
I’m pretty sure (as in I tried many times) that I had cancelled lock on both the FCR and the TGP.
Any ideas? Thanks

Good Day, Bruzzer
The pertinent pages of the Dash-34 are 171-174. It sounds like a SPI issue. But, just to be sure, did your CZ work before? Did you make sure it’s mapped and mapped properly? The Alternate Launcher is a good place to test that. What keyfile are you using?
Another option in the cockpit is Snowplow on the radar. When I get “stuck on an SPI” I find that is quickest for me. -

Thx drtbkj, I’m really not sure what had happend, but I was doing a lot of SOI back and forth bethween FCR adn TGP (I normally keep them both on one MFD - this time though I wasn’t)… The Docs are good and I think maybe I was a victim of this
Targeting Pod (TGP) and SPI
When in STP mode the TGP position will be in sync with the A-G radar and with the SPI position (the exception to this case is if the radar is tracking a target and the TGP becomes SOI and is slewed away from the SPI position as the SPI stays with the radar track). If the TGP becomes the SOI then the SPI position will move along and update with TGP slews and the radar position will update to the same location as well. If the TGP is tracking and the STPT is changed then the TGP will break track and sync with the SPI position. That being said, I could swear I was TMSing down like crazy and CZing as well, but who knows.
Will keep reading and learning - the reference was very helpful.

Good Day, Bruzzer. I’ve had times when it feels like BMS “gets stuck” when I’m doing things quickly. Usually, it’s turned out my procedure wasn’t completely right. However, I do try to remember that we are interfacing with our jets via pc’s . Could our pc’s"hiccup"? I try to “help” the avionics by seeking a balance of speed and purposefulness .I think of it almost as I would “help” a pc with a slower internet connection.
It’s funny you mention layering the FCR/TGP on one MFD. That’s something I’ve done, from time to time, to “slow myself down”.
May I suggest you create a TE, where people aren’t shooting at you, to allow yourself to polish your procedure? -
This happens to me and I think I notice it most when I have something locked in the TGP then I mask the target or get the problem (I think it’s IR) cue.
To solve I have to get that IR cue to go away and then TMS Dn.
FCR could be similar, I should test this and make sure I understand what is going on but real busy in RL for the moment.

Why yes, yes you may… as a mater of fact I’ll do that and tie it to my night TFR I need to practice before resuming that strike mission the SA10 keeps killing me on.
Thanks!
