Kuwait Theater tester version 2 (434U1)
-
I had my priorities set high for airfields and no flights were being generated. After removing SAM threat around Kuwait, I reset for aircraft instead of airfields and noticed hardly flights being generated, this happened also with transition to busting tanks in priorities as no flights were being generated. BARCAP flights weren’t an issue though those were the only ones being generated and the rest zilch. Deleted and will restart and see what happens but so far nothing was in the frag order except 1 or 2 flights and my Air power was full while red was halfway and they had aircraft up like roaches so much my screen was moving. Am I doing something wrong?? Normally what I do is set the priorities and command my own squadron and adjust as time goes, but I seem to not be able to do that here.
I had no such problems. Of course, HQ is unlikely to frag anti airfield missions in high threat areas before SAM and aircraft threats are reduced to a certain level. Those are very high in this theater and is not mirrored in the absolute numbers of the Intel section (SEAD / DEAD / Sweeps should be no problem). I put entire packages together for myself against enemy airfields. If you don’t mind to have no action / thrill, take a flight of EF-111 with you (SAMs will stay quiet).
My second thought: Do NOT go into extremes in the Priorities section. In the past, the campaign system was very fragile, I don’t exactly know how stable it is today. Slight adjustments with the sliders are the way to go (except Infrastructure, should be 0.000000000 ) I have a habit since many years: Put HQ back in charge from time to time and then adjust new carefully target and mission types, PAKs.

Thank you for that, I think I’m going to take over the ATO for certain airframes needed to bring down those airbases, I intend to have fun with it in this manner:
Day 1) Suppress enemy airfields from launching as well as destroy SAM radars in Kuwait city and south of it in Saudi and in Al Kahfji and around the FLOT.
Day 2) Strike key military/industrial/factory targets in Kuwait city as well as Al Kahfji as well as BAI and CAS with destruction/suppression of EW radars in and around the FLOT and Kuwait city and Al Kahfji.
Day 3) Prohibit/destroy possible advances of reinforcements into Kuwait city and Al Kahfji
Day 4) Destroy any remaining ground forces and give allied troops to advance and capture key cities and points (Push CAS) as well as provide air suppirt for the push into Al Kahfji and Kuwait city.
As far as slight adjustments go, is there a time frame in which I should wait before making further changes to target type and mission type in the priorities options of the engine itself??
Thank you for your advice/feedback. I’ve been waiting a long time for a Desert Storm campaign and I intend to enjoy it very much. I only wish the campaign was longer than 10 days but that may be all that is needed to win with my strategy, it is a Storm after all.

That sounds like a good plan, highly certain to get overthrown at day 1
Adjustments will take effect when new sorties are generated. That can take 1-2 hours depending on free aircraft. But you don’t have to wait correcting them.
Think more globally. Everything has to be addressed on a certain level. HQ always has more tools than your squadron. Look into ATO (check all) and you will see, that i.e. more F-4 or Tornados are flying SEAD than F-16, more F-15 doing sweeps, A-10 CAS, … Thats a neat big picture and mirrors your Priorities pretty well.
How I did it:
The campaign goal is to take Basrah and some Installations around, set the PAK region on a higher priority, too (go not at extreme 5). The same with the front line of troops FLOT (in the west not over 3, Kuwait can be 5, spare Baghdad at the beginning - too dangerous, address other a little bit to get sorties generated there).Example:
Your first goal should be to take out the MiG-29 squadron at Basrah. For this, create a first SEAD mission coming in over the Persian Gulf from the east with maybe a flight of F-15 sweep not farther in than the coast. Use the long range of the HARM, stay locked from SA-5s fire control radar or you will miss. Watch threat aircraft, call AWACs for help, F-15 are nearby. If in planning not enough aircraft are available, cancel unneeded flights from the ATO in the desired time frame from the desired squadrons.
Second mission: Go after Basrah airport. Here I have specialized on a somewhat suicidal way, coming in very low over water with Durandals without a wingman (would be shot down), evading AAA, SA-2 and -3 watching RWR. Evading Installations because of Manpads. Tasking F-15C for escort (you can call AWACS for help, they will guide them to threat aircraft, the 29ers WILL intercept you), F-4 for SEAD escort. “Sneak” in radar off (though, they will see you to some extend on their radars), ECM just short before the target. Route lined up with runway. For BLU-107 I set AD in CNTL page both entries to 1.00 seconds before Ingress Point. Pop up to 300ft, watch IR-SAMs beeing launched, Chaff / Flare, crater runway, CAT-III, maneuver hard at lowest altitude, go around threats on egress. From IP to the target go fast but not over 620 knots or bombs will be damaged, same with too much G-forces before dropping.
Or you prefer the sensible way: Put together a large package with 4 F-16 OCA with GBU-24 (penetrator version), 4 F-15C escort, 4 F-4 SEAD, 2 EF-111 ESW/ESJ (keeps SAMs silent) and hammer the base from high above without threat from IR-SAMs and AAA.
Next missions: take out near airfields with MiG-21 (look into OOB), work along the SA-2 line along the FLOT, take out more SA-5.
Take enough time spacing between OCA-Strikes or they will get repaired all at once and you have fun with a wall of MiGs in the second night when the runways get repaired. Don’t take out too many airfields because aircraft in Falcon have to be shot down in the air to reduce their strength (always let a certain amount of enemy aircraft flyable to reduce them over time).
With threat environment reduced, do what you want. CAS is important. Or go after factories and depots (a nice one near Basrah with all buildings very high value). Or early warning radars. This is the phase you may pound other targets than OCA / SEAD / DEAD, BUT: The threats from aircraft and hideous SAMs kept high to the end in my campaigns.

Just a " +1 " to say thanks for the theatre.
Really enjoying it. Certianly a change from Korea.
Just come back from a CAS mission in hour 5.
I moved a few British aircraft nearer the front - makes for a very busy airport seeing the Buccaneers, Jags, and Tornadoes all lined up ready for departure. We had a little airshow with me on the ramp and watching them take off on their way. So good hearing the comms in place! -

Sounds like it’ll never get boring, hells yeah. Thanks for all your help and suggestions they’re really appreciated. I’m gonna fire this up soon and get to work, thanks again.

does anybody else have issues with enemy aircraft being to lazy to engage? Yesterday i was almost able to see the enemy pilot clearly before he engaged me! And in another mission almost fly formation with a mig-23 before i shot it down… The only enemies that will engage you from distance this far seems that are only mig 25

Hi there,
BMS is crashing on startup after switching to this theater. (running latest update “Add-On Kuwait434U4_V7_27-04-2020”) Other theaters are loading fine.
crash log tells me:“Falcon BMS.exe caused an EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION…”
and
“Object at RCX(0000000000000000)
Data inaccessible”can anybody help me out with some pointers? Thanks for you work and have a good one.
EDIT: Nevermind… i never actually applied the BMS updates… doing that now

I’ve had some tough merges with Mig-23s. 29s and 25s are also quite aggressive in my experience. Some of their strike aircraft however permit us to fly form off them before gunning them down.

Great theatre and campaign. Just completed it flying the F-15E Strike Eagle with the 335th FS, reliving Jane’s F-15! I’ve not had this fun in a long time in a flight sim.
A few things I want to point out:
After probably half of day 1 had progressed, only a few sorties were generated for my squadron and it took many hours before they popped up. Not many were generated for the newly arrived 336th FS (also Strike Eagles). I also saw that the F-117 squadron had only flown 1 mission in two days. I made my own strike packages primarily for my squadron at this point. Feels like a loss of air power with no F-15E missions being generated no matter if you fly the F-15E or not.
Around the same time as my squadron stopped receiving missions, HQ “white listed” Kuwait in the ATO for some reason. Had to override the ATO and made it a focus again in the PAK menu. Also noticed that numerous squadrons in the campaign did not receive any missions, or few if any.
Looking at the map in real time, most missions flown by the coalition was over Kuwait, Basrah and the area closest to western Kuwait. But I guess this is by design?
This changed after I messed with the PAK-settings.Maybe add a few more F-15C and F-14A squadrons for fighter missions for HQ to draw up? Maybe EF-111s and EA-6Bs as well.
Verdict: 8,5/10 due to no more missions being generated for my squadron and others. Will fly again though!
Would be awesome to see an Operation Iraqi Freedom campaign, and a fictional modern day Iran campaign at some point.
Keep up the good work.

Hi,
is there a way to change the white font color in the 2D map and make it darker? It’s difficult to read the white labels over the yellow desert map…
Thanks

Possible options:
- Installation is not performed correctly. (Recording paths to the theater)
- Corrupted archive when downloading.
- Try changing the theater in the Falcon editor options.
PS.
The version of the theater works with the latest Falcon updates; for compatibility with older versions of the game, no tests were performed.Hi,

uzrLater I will execute a theater map in darker colors.

Thank.
All my free time is now spent on refining landscapes and textures of the earth (mixing different types of sand, adjusting heights, adding zones with lakes and farms, etc.). Adding towns and villages, similar to how it looks from Google maps.
There is no time for other things yet.
PS.
SU-20 Desert skin updated.

Omg, this looks really great!

Are you looking for any help with information on this theater? I spent quite a bit of time in Iraq and would love to assist in this project, my time was spent much later than ODS but I’d be more than happy to help, I do a lot of research on ODS order of battle. I can provide squadron names for the Saddam era Iraqi Air Force, bases, airframes used by said squadrons, and places targeted in downtown Baghdad in 91. A lot of that info carries over to 2004. I can also assist in the creation of assets for Baghdad international airport and K West in Mosul. Personally I’d love to see your map expanded so we can properly simulate Operation Inherent Resolve.
-
I’d love to see that, judging by our conversations you actually know your stuff.

Can you post that stuff in the forum anyway, would be curious to know your info!

For those that are interested there is always the Gulf War Air Power Survey. Awesome report on the air war. Complete order of battle on both sides, a overlook on targets hit on which day and so forth.
Just search for the above title and you’ll find it on Google.
-
Absolutely! I’ll compile some stuff with sources for you. For the record I’m not an ODS vet to be clear, I was there in 2017 and 18, but most of my info comes from reading. The Air Power Survey is a fantastic resource as is The Air Campaign: Planning For Combat by Colonel John Walden III. Airpower Advantage: Planning the Gulf War Air Campaign 1989-1991 is a good doctrinal look as well. I’ll pull specifics for a seperate forum post, but @spGoro, if you’d be okay with it I’d love to help make campaigns for you.

Good catch this yours, mate.
It could be interesting… I’m curious, so I’m going to go and see what good could be there.
With best regards.

Me too. So please do that, dear modelo, if you don’t mind of course.
With best regards.
