Refueling with Hotas Warthog
-
I fly with a warthog setup and have no trouble AAR. The throttle is definitely precise enough. As you learn to AAR, you’ll think everything else is contributing to your struggles. We’ve all been there. It’s not the sim and it’s not the gear. It’s you! Relax. Practice. And practice some more. You’ll get it and when it clicks you’ll feel pretty awesome.

Keep at 300knots, pay attention to the lights on the belly of the tanker and do small correction as necessary.
The key here is to do small changes, speed and direction. -
Eyes in the hud
Only fast glances to tanker
Fuel info in DED
DED data in the hud
Tanker in peripheral vision
Minute corrections with stick in relation to throttle
Remember your plane has angle of attack
Flight model is pretty accurate
Fly the FPM in relation to hud horizon line
Work slow, be fast -
Ignore YOUR speed and position, it is irrelevant - fly on the tanker and you’ll be fine.

i setup the warthog using alternate launcher, no dead zone, found it alot easier even i can refuel now.

fully agreed. Best tip I ever got to lear AAR: turn the HUD OFF. Do not fly speeds, do not fly fpm to the horizon. It all does not matter, and will most likely cause pilot induced oscillations. Fly formation on the tanker. Relaxed hand on the stick. And the throttle constantly making adjustments; whereas the throttle movements can become gradually smaller when you are settling in.

Exactly.

I have a Warthog HOTAS and can do AAR fine (very dodgy on turns still though, I need more practice ). Practice is the key.
The other thing is it is a very perishable skill so incorporating AAR in your missions or an AAR TE will help keep the “feel” current.
Good luck

If you want to practice with a human hit me up.

No issue with the Warthog throttle here either.
I put the friction to the minimum, which makes small corrections very easy
