Can't Install my Microprose Falcon 4.0 disc on Windows 10\. It won't run….........
-
Hi guys, I’m having problems with the 4.34 Installer. Previously I only had to point the installer at my original CD. Now I’m being told I have to have a licensed copy of the game on my machine, but crucially the disc won’t run or autoplay. If I select the set up exe. from the disc and run in compatibility mode for Win 98/ME and as admin, nothing happens.
I’m well and truly stuffed. Why did you change this ? I enjoyed BMS a lot , but this already looks like a lot of grief. Pity because I’ve now got a Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas.
And I’m not buying it again on Steam or Gog or whatever.Oh well back to DCS……

Because this is EXACTLY why we enjoy BMS 4.33u1 and beyond. Falcon is the cost of sodas you’d drink in a day or two… hope you reconsider. -

You could try to copy your CD to HDD and install Falcon from there.
You could try to boot Win 10 into safe mode and install Falcon from there.
IIRC no compatibility mode necesarry.I’m well and truly stuffed. Why did you change this ? I enjoyed BMS a lot , but this already looks like a lot of grief. Pity because I’ve now got a Thrustmaster Warthog Hotas.

Oh well back to DCS……
You rather buy modules for DCS, … that’s funny, LOL!
Cheers, :yo:

The only module I’ve actually bought for DCS World is the A10C Warthog which is a great module to be fair, and a superb aircraft to fly but I did get it on sale whilst it was half price a little while ago…… and I did reconsider, not being able to fly BMS… So for £5 bought it on Steam. I’m hoping the installer will now be happy to proceed. Incidentally, I was a bit surprised to find I could not log in on here with my usual password. I requested a reset ( copied the new password to a safe location ) and then tried to reset it to a new one. The reset page didn’t work, so it appears there may be a bug in that process. Luckliy the password sent in the request still works. I’ll let you know how the install goes… one way or t’other. Thanks for the suggestions and help guys, but Steam is the easiest solution I reckon. I’m not that familiar with Safe mode. The only time I saw that once before was when my PC was about to die.

If there was a bug in the reset process, I think it would have been uncovered quite some time ago, wouldnt you agree?

Try to install Microprose Falcon 4.0 in Windows 10 safe mode.
-
No need to install anything, just copy the CD files to the proper folder structure, (find and) add the registry line for the original Microprose Falcon 4 (anyone can export it and share it), and start BMS installation pointing to the folder structure.

I think you have to install it in Vista mode, don’t you? I recall reading that somewhere…I got an original F4.0 disk to install properly under Win 10, but it was long enough ago that I can’t recall just what I did.

No Vista mode required when installing Falcon 4.0 in Windows 10 safe mode.
Enter Windows 10 safe mode:
- Win-Key
- Press Shift + Reboot
Then
- Troubleshoot
- Advanced options
- Startup settings
- Restart
Now PC is booting again.
Press 4 to start Windows 10 it in safe modeExplorer: Choose CD-ROM drive and execute setup.exe to install Falcon 4.0.
This worked for me. Maybe helpful for others…
