Gigantic page file when running 4.35
-
I had a CTD while playing a TE (prepackaged one - Multination War), which I already flew a number of times. A couple of minutes into the flight, I had an unusual pop-up at the top right of the screen showing memory usage. This is obviously an in-simulation feature, similar to FPS display. It showed that my paging file was gigantic (30GB!) and it was running out of space. Sure enough, a minute later it did run out and the sim crashed. This was the first time I have seen this happen, but I did notice that a crash log from a few days ago showed a 25GB paging file. That time it did not crash due to the same issue, but it seems that the sim is eating up paging space and it’s for no reason as my RAM was only used at about 40%. Did anybody else experience a similar issue or perhaps it’s a known problem?

Did you restart BMS in between entering 3d?
All the best,

I did, yes. Just now I restarted the PC and tried the mission again. I also manually set the page file to be 100MB - 1GB. The sim never touched the page file and everything ran fine. So it doesn’t happen every time.

I’ve seen similar memory issues with Xplane 11 on Linux (the sim getting killed because of an OOM situation), but those went away when I upgraded to a new gaming system with 32GB RAM instead of the previous 24GB.
I wouldn’t expect BMS consuming this much memory though. Anything else running in the background at the time, maybe antivirus, some weird browser page not behaving properly etc?
Maybe you can run the system monitoring tool alongside (on a 2nd monitor) to take a peek on BMS memory usage.
All the best,
Uwe

@zerg ,
this sure as heck shows as memory leak situation with lots of addressing space wasted, then paged… that much memory uses only Photoshop when working big files
Try that same flight (save?) again with only minimal set of applications , like only trackir ,… then in the middle of flight or so , pause game , enter windowed mode with ALT+ENTER , ALT+TAB to windows, and check paging …
Or even better , check TASK MANAGER for stats…
yes?Cheers
–my paging file is about 5G with 32GB ram… but I’ll take a look again when fire BMS up

It does look like a memory leak and I am not 100% sure if it was BMS that caused it although I am 95% sure. I close everything down before firing up the sim and I have no antivirus outside of the standard Windows software. Like I said though, I reran the mission after PC restart and the page file was never touched. I set it to be 100MB minimal and it was 100MB after I exited BMS. I was mostly wondering if others had a similar thing happen.

And other media software, like Resolve

If you can figure out reproduction steps, please file a bug report here. If you create a login first, you can track the issue and get email notifications when there are updates to it.

It’s not restarting the pc but it is restarting the game (bms) each time you exit the 3D World
Cheers

BBYes, I know. After the game crashed that time I restarted the PC just to take as many variables as possible out of the equation. Normally I only restart the sim.

Useless, except if you’re changing some data files, and even then, depends which ones.
