Hud-projection mod

Only detail here: I included violet. I’ll see if I can take a shot without the violet tint as well. This would compare better to these pictures.
High regards,
FanNo … keep the tint … objective is to compare the tint between different other mods …

Dr. Balding managed to make very cool and bright fonts for FF, maybe someone from the BMS gents could to ask him if he can do his magic in BMS…or assist the BMS gents if that is a mod of interest.
?
Dunno, thought mentioning it won’t hurt.Dr. Balding managed a lot of things. One very memorable for former BMS code group members. Well anyway thanks for offer we dont go this way. I already created new HUD hires font by referce photos to match typeface closely and thats is already what you got in 4.32 and not no changes are planed there as we are quite happy with result.

… mmm … sorry … no more needed No need to send me your files FanOfBMS! Thank you a LOT anyway!!!

Ataribaby: I wasn’t the guy asking for new fonts.;) I just pointed that BaldEagle did some magic back then in FF, basically from dimm to bright. My concern has been the tint of the HUD. But since you mention it: IMHO the fonts are a bit huge. Anyway, that is my opinion only and as far as I can fly with my favourite choice of HUD tint versions I am all happy.:D
BTW:
Dark to brownish is for USAF/Europen F-16s AFAIK and violet either the latest and greatest or only HAF from my knowledge…which is limited. But all Belgian/Dutch or Norway F-16s I saw so far used the darker brownish HUD, HAF Vipers the violet, USAF Block 40s either brownish or Violet.Tom

Well its always compromise for good readability. At least font face is very close to RL one. Size will probably not change. All is calibrated for this size and rework all is, well, big task again. Sorry.

I’d like to throw in a few words on the HUD-fonts as well
I don’t think rework is needed at all. From vids & pictures I studied during my HUD-projection mod, much of which came from CrazyTom btw (thanks again mate!), showed very good to perfect glyphs and figures.
However, there is still room for improvement in this area, without having to redesign the graphics engine (for a new 3D-view model for instance).
Without elaborating 2 much on this, also because atm there’s not much possible outside the code, they can be improved with a different colorscheme. (no, I don’t mean the current FF00FF (green) color or the other ‘stock’ colors: I mean a perfect colorsetup matching with e.g. my HUD-mod)
The imersion of the overall HUD-view would then be advanced even further.
Just my 2 cents.

ok. Just for fun then, see below pics.

I think it looks cool, Mark!
As for videos: I skipped the ones posted in the other thread and I think at page 3 and 4 you get all you need.
And here in this very thread.
I don’t think much better infos are available TBH. But I did NOT search lately, also TBH-.Cheers

FanYes i understand. Everything can be done better if you willing invest time to do it and TBH i dont want invest time into this now. I even wrote Font Editor when i decided to rework HUD/DED/RWR/MFD fonts. But now happy with result and just enjoying flight with it now a bit. Never say never.

Hey CT,
Thanks again for your reference. However, I do have some nice pictures to work with right now (with the help of Bushmaster).
I’m putting stuff together right now, which is a time consuming and precise matter as you know. But, if I make progress, I’ll keep you posted of course
Also, Dee-Jay is willing to test this reflection-setup as well.
2B continued.

Were you guys able to restrict the symbology within the constraints of the reflected CRT image? I think that would be realistic. Usually in Falcon games HUD projection exists in spots outside of the physical CRT.
-
@he Bushmaster,
I assume you mean the symbology bleeding off well outside the CRT-reflected area.
If you mean my HUD-projection mod by ‘they’ then yes, it’s restricted (by a sharp cut 3993.dds file, which does the/this job perfectly; btw: hint for those who didn’t do this: this mod is designed in such a way that you’d need as well the 8005.dds as the 3993.dds. So downloading only the 8005.dds misses out on the total effects. I can tell quite a lot did, counting the numbers of downloads of course )
If you mean the bms-team by ‘they’ nope, they didn’t. I found that the so-called viewport is not setup accordingly. However, this need not be problematic, as the most of you know as most fly with stock setup.
This is adjustable, but would require new font-designs and setups IMO. Take this concept a bit further: even the viewport itself, now a square box (one sees only the symbology 'cause of the alpha filter used) could (I think btw: should) be a ‘half glass-ball’ curved designed one. In doing so, projecting glyphs would give a more 3-D feel. But, mybe in a next life hahaha.
Ok, hope it clears it up a bit.

Thanks Fan, that is what I meant. In previous Falcon’s like the original, SPs, OF etc, projection on the edges always appeared outside the physical CRT edges. You understand what I mean. If you finally fixed this issue so we can look at something as realistic as possible, I am hoping BMS will include it in the next update.
-
This mod strikes me as one of those which should absolutely be included in the next official release from BMS.
-
I’d love to have the text reflect a bit like DCS does. Of course BMS still trumps driving the Pig. Slow aircraft just ain’t right.
-
Yep I also think slightly more transparent and “flashy” green HUD would be better.
I might be wrong, but I think in that aspect, open falcon did slightly better. Might just be my bad memory though
-
I think they’re quite ok in BMS now TBH.
For referrence: you mean like these from OF4.5?

Fan
