I’m starting from scratch here. Having loaded both 433 and 435, gleaming through all of the PDF files, I’d like to start rehearsing ACM. I’m not able to find the chapters that cover (step by step by step) what I need to know and what keys to press and what keys to bind and I practice ACM and BVR encounters.
Can an Old Man get a little help here?

PS. I recommend learning how to rampstart, takeoff and land before ACM, unless you’re more into the arcade aspect vs really learning how to fly the viper; if you’re into the former vs the latter, unfortunately we’re not a good fit for you BUT, you can start by reading the DASH 1 Manual found in the Main Menu when you launch the game…simply choose Documentation and Manuals and bob’s your uncle.

TR#17 (IR Intercept) and the script in BMS-Training.pdf, really is quite good. A nice safe space to practice all the different ACM radar modes, and sidewinder modes (slav/bore … spot/scan, etc) … also good for just getting used to headtracking or mouselook – keep eyes on that transport plane as it passes through the scattered clouds.
Then the next TR#18 focuses more on BVR / CAP tactics.

In order to practice you will want to know all of the relevant controls and mechanizations of systems in F-16. ACM which includes BVR is a very large subject. For the purposes of the man-machine interface 1v1 BFM and 1v1 BVR head on engagement is complex enough. All more complex ACM will be an extension of how and when you maneuver and not button pushing (for the most part).
In general you want to have every HOTAS control available to you, but listing according to subject I would say to start:
WVR BFM, non-radar cued
Trigger
WR button
MO/DGFT switch
Missile stepRadar-cued
TMSBVR
Cursor
Antenna elevation -

EddyFrom one old man to another, do the A-A training missions (AIM120 / AIM 9 series) then hop into Instant Action (A-A) for some “Instant gratification” dropping bombers and stay alive as long as you can vs. fighters when they show up and/or you run out of fuel. Don’t be afraid of using labels and have fun, because if its not fun you won’t feel like/look forward to learning all the other aspects of this very complicated simulation. And connect with someone more knowledgeable as soon as possible ^^^^^^ (like Stalker) and fly online, will exponentially decrease the learning curve…

Its a matter of key bindings that is the saturation for me at this age. I have a logitech wingman xtreme so its a keyboard life for me and I’m fine with that- the task is to narrow down the top 20 things I must know immediately using the keyboard. Falcon and I go back to 1992 and we even had a course in college that into’d us to Falcon 3.0- that was the hook. We didn’t call it hard core simming back then, we just called it Falcon. So move up to 2021, Im over 60 years of age, several ailments that put me into disability retirement. Online gaming is not my primary focus, just a yearning for the Falcon Dynamic Engine and the joy that it is still being preserved. I want to enlist in the BMS membership and help them in any way I possibly can. Ive wasted enough time and money with Eagle Dynamics and now that I’ve found the proper way to get BMS installed, I want to turn the focus of my free time to Benchmark. Work shouldn’t go unrewarded, and its a capitalist world, so given that- I’m more than willing to give Benchmark the financial support they may need to keep this program going strong. Its all to apparent that the last couple of generations have failed at the concept of a dynamic engine as the source of entertainment. And the DCS AI is well…a joke on sunday.
Im just a worn out crankshaft and wisdom has shown me if I witness something truly good and serves the public well, I should support it. So Im making my commitment here and now.With Warmest Greetings to Everyone Here-

Remember to start small. Don’t have to memorize all 500 lines in “BMS-Minimum.key” file in order to begin flying and learning…!
Start with basic takeoff, flight and landing before jumping into complexities of ACM and FCR modes…
(Actually I recommend to start with landing… no point taking off if you can’t land, lol.)Then, the only keys you really need to know to get started, on TR#3, is [G] to lower the gear and [K] to come to a stop on the ground.

Pennies for thoughts…
Realize, these are just the things that either (a) don’t have an accessible button or knob in the cockpit, or (b) need to be activated quickly, without taking eyes off the bad guy (or the runway). Obviously, this is not the sum total of things you need to know and learn to fly the Viper! But it’s enough to start.

Old house moving trick: Reach for drawer which should have silverware in it already. That’s where you unpack silverware to. It’s much easier to remember keys that you decided what they are than what you read as they come out of the box. Treat BMS default key assignments with disrespect. Change them to what you think they should be.
