Ok folks
This one is going to sound silly. Got a brand new Alienware M17 R4 Laptop I’m trying to install the base version of Falcon 4.0 with, so I can continue with BMS. Plug in the CD Rom and plonk the disk in and run setup. Nothing. Installer hangs. OK next step is burn an ISO file out to my external HD and mount the image on Daemon tools and run it that way. No dice. Once again, the installer just hangs.
What could I POSSIBLY be missing?

Even so I have the original CD had some same issue getting it installed from CD on WIN10.
I personally spend the 5 bucks and bougth it again from steam, installed in 2 minutes -
Try run the setup.exe as an administrator (elevated rights).

Thanks for the replies guys but I figured it out. I had to go into safe more to get it to install. Now God only knows WHY I had to go into safe mode to get it to install, but I did. I think its the version of the OS Dell installed on this thing from the factory (it keeps trying to “protect” me from myself even though I don’t need protecting). Anyway guys thanks for the quick help. Now for my next trick. Learning how to do the “dance” again.

It’s not just you there have been a lot of folks unable to install the original 1990s era cdrom, on modern Win10 x64 systems.
I’m astonished it’s still possible, at all. Most installers from that era had 16-bit executable shells, that wouldn’t run at all today without some sort of emulator.
+1 to Oak … the $5-10 paid to GoG or Steam, are in exchange for value they provide, by making new installers for old games, and keeping them up-to-date.

No, that’s just Windows 10, not Dell bloatware, keeping you from using your computer as you see fit. Older programs have a notorious reputation for requiring extra steps. Glad you got it sorted, there are a few tricks and you happened upon one of them. This is one of the major benefits of places like GOG and Steam creating modern installers or executables for these old sims, most of the time they are much easier to use.
Cheers!

Hi Gunner15a, glad you got your Falcon 4 install sorted out. I’m just ahead of you, doing the same thing, but decided that for the price of a beer installing it from Steam was so much easier. I put the treasured CD back in the box with the manual and the map! I remember ‘the dance’ from years ago, but you’re going to be surprised because there ain’t one anymore! It’s easier than you could possibly imagine, and from what I read on the MSFS forum MS and Asobo should consider messaging the BMS developers for a few tips!
Good luck.

I’ll be happy to answer them lol
