Can anyone tell me how to get communication with the tower while taxing out an F-4 Phantom II? My favorite aircraft with an awesome ramp start procedure!!

Hi, Tom, As the Phantom uses Viper avionics, the procedure should be the same. What exactly is the problem you’re having, and in what theater? I know the stock Phantom cockpit is very “austere”, with lots of switch hotspot issues. That’s why in some theaters you’ll find it as a Viper or Hornet pit in it.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my inquiry!
Here’s what I do with radios:
Radio section - Right Hand Side:
press - Com Cmd and Nav Cmd
turn up all communications and threat call volumes
Select channel 2 to talk to towerRadio section - Left Hand Side (ICS)
Switch Radio to Normal or Open
Select CH SetPlease let me know if you see obvious mistakes.

Hi, Tom, I don’t have a working stock pit to test on , but let’s see what we can do with the cockpit diagram. It looks like you turn on UHF Mode and function on the left console, then on the right console turn on the UHF and VHF volumes, then channel.
What is working and not working in comms, besides the Tower issue?
One thing I noticed is that you said to speak to tower on UHF 2. Tower is usually UHF 3. When you use the T keyboard command, to get to “Ready for Departure” is that command white or greyed out? If greyed out, then your Tower freq is set wrong.
I’m unclear what the “set UHF to Tower” does. There is no callback for that in the current BMS-Full keyfile, at least.
I was hoping that with Shift+H( if you’re using BMS-Full) you could emulate the DED data to the HUD, but I don’t think that will work. In the Viper at least, that data is not shown on the Helmet Display, and that looks like that’s what you have.
I like what Qawa and Co. did with this stock pit, but there could be technical issues. For example, when 4.35 came out the jfs and other things didn’t work in the Hornet. That was because the callbacks changed. How to fix them is in the BMS Fighters Manual in the Mafia Files, but in the stock pit that will be a project.
Frankly, I’m staring to remember why we went with the Viper or Hornet pits in the Viet Nam Theater. Hopefully, someone with current BMS Phantom stock-pit experience will chime in and help.
In the meantime…1)Try the “T” leyboard thing discussed earlier
2) Try keyboard F1, then num3, then numEnter
Let us know what you find…
