Solved Question Re Virpil and BMS.
-
I just got my Mongoose CM3 Throttle and Mongoose Joystick. (coming from the Logitech X56).
I am going to set it up, but if you have these joysticks, (do you/should you) use the BMS Alternative Launcher to map your commands to the joystick. (or do you just use the BMS 4.35 in-game setup page and create a joystick profile from there).
Either way, can I just select the command, press the button and the map is tied in the joystick and game? Or is there another action needed with the vipril. Also, I heard about something called Joystick Gremlin. This is suppose to help map different aircraft in DCS. but do you have it and use it with BMS…if so. is there a bit of a tutorial.

@bayonet I haven’t ventured into RSMapper just yet, although those key sequences look very nice. I was asking for a friend at the time

I see no reason why you couldn’t just map it as you normally would using the alternative launcher. That’s how I’ve done it with my virpil WarBRD before I got my FSSB.
You may need to go into the virpil software and tell the stick base what stick top you have. But try it without that first and see if it works.

I am pretty sure I have to install the software first as it needs to calibrate…
Also wondering if I add the Joystick Gremlin program if anything special is needed to do as well. -
@jack72 Congrats on getting the CM3, I have the CM2 and am very pleased with it.
As for software, you need to install the Virpil software. Then there is the issue that BMS only reads 32 buttons per device. Your throttle has far more controls than that. You can choose to install the firmware version 20200325 which allows you to split your CM3 into virtual devices in the firmware profile. Then Alternative Launcher will allow you to map everything easily. I run that option myself.
If you opt for newer firmware you need to virtualize the CM3 into multiple devices using vJoy of 32 buttons each. I do not know if Gremlin is required after that, or if AL will pick up the virtual devices from vJoy directly.

I use RSMapper to map the CM3 Throttle. It allows the sim to “see” everything on the throttle power levers and on the base, except the flaps lever.
I don’t know why that is. RSMapper is very easy to download and use. The maker also has a very handy Utube video to lead you through it.AS I’m sure you know, BMS can see everything on the stick as it has only 32 inputs.
I’ve used both the CM3 and the Alpha Grip on the WarBRD base for almost a year now and have had no problems. They’re great.

@bayonet I just watched the RSMapper intro video. Do you need to run vJoy for it to “see” all buttons on the Virpil throttle or does it work in BMS without setting up virtual devices ?
-
@jayb Sorry for the late reply jayb, Christmas interrupted.
Neither vJoy nor any other app is required.
Simply input the BMS call backs into RSMapper .
Good Luck.

@bayonet Cheers, appreciate the clarification. That actually makes it more simple to set up than AL, as long as there is a keyboard key for the function you are going for

@jayb You’re welcome…Good luck. Solved???
