What is flyable in 4.36?
-
Other than F16’s what other planes are flyable with their own pits and flight models? 4.36 specific. Thanks in advance.

@Sgt_Fresh-0 . The F18 C is fully flyable as is. The Av-8 is flyable, and the cockpit can be made 100% with files from the Mafia Files. The Mediafile version is current and the link is below in my signature. We have tested the Tornado and it’s flyable but the cockpit is incomplete. I invite you to get the BMSOFM Fighters’ Manual, also in the Files. It contains procedures to get almost any BMS Jet FMC.
We are also helping Chuckles with the development of the Nevada, Kuwait, and eventually Korea 2012 Theaters. Those contain other jets such as the F-35.
Sarge, we’ll spot tested a lot of the jets in 4.36, so which jet would you like to fly? -
@Sgt_Fresh-0 there’s sortof a ladder to how jets are modelled in BMS…
L1) flyable, basic flight model and with F-16 cockpit
L2) advanced flight model
L3) custom cockpit
L4) ramp-startable cockpit
L5) special non-F16 features and avionics (eg. autothrottle) but still mostly F-16 avionicsI think F-18C and Harrier AV-8B are the only “L5” jets? Not sure.
I see Su-35 and Yak-38 have new AFM dat files, in 4.36… interesting.
Mirage 2k and the A-10 also got a lot of love and attention, in the past, but I haven’t tested them recently…

@drtbkj thanks for the link and information.

@airtex2019 thanks airtex I am interested in the L5’s I’m gonna try out the F18c.

You are very welcome. I agree with Airtex’s list, and if may add a bit…
There are a lot of L1’s in BMS. But not all of them have Viper cockpits, especially in some non-KTO Theaters. For example, in Kuwait( which is coming out very soon) the Harrier and F-35 have Hornet pits. Depending on what the Theater Dev wants, of course, my personal recommendation has been to pit a Viper pit in ground based planes, and Hornet in naval ones.
If you want to do a little “inventory” of L2’s , go to 4.36>data>your theater>acdata and scroll down the list looking for afm files. “Refined” is a word I use for jets with afm, meaning how close to real life they are and how free of glitches. For example, in 4.35 the F-18E had a flat spin glitch. I haven’t tested that in 4.36, yet. Some flight models are more refined then others. Right now the most refined is the Viper. The F18C is next, and we continue to work on further refining that. Jets like the Rhino, Harrier, Tornado,A-10,F-35 etc. have flight models that may be completely fine, depending on your skill set and knowledge of RL performance. Let’s call them L 2.5’s
For Airtex’s L3 category , assuming he means fully functional (that’s where L4 comes in) . Right now your choices are the Viper or Hornet. I say right now as we hope to change that with time. We have tools to adjust and add hotspots in the pits. In fact, a group within the OFM is working on the Tornado right now.
There are also groups outside the OFM working on jets’ too.
In conclusion, Sarge, what I’m saying you don’t have to limit yourself to Viper or Hornet There are quite a few “L 4.5’s” in BMS. If you’re casual about how “accurate” the flight dynamics are, you have more choices. If you don’t mind using the occasional keyboard command to ramp start, you have still more choices. -
@drtbkj true it’s a bit more nuanced and dimensional, than my simplified 5 levels
fyi I do see some diffs in the AFM flight model for F-18C … just diff’ing 4.35 and 4.36 folders. the changes look mostly related to gear and flaps. not sure if it addresses the flat-spin issue you mention.
@Sgt_Fresh-0 the F-18C with Viper avionics is super fun and addictive …

Hi, Airtex. The flat spin issue was in the F18E. I’ll be checking that out one of these days.
Also, you raise a point I was going to mention , the avionics. Sarge, you’ve probably seen it by now, but all the jets in BMS use Viper avionics. That can be good or bad, depending on your preferences. I know people here who absolutely won’t fly anything but the Viper because the others aren’t “real”, and we completely respect their preference. However, on the other hand, you have people (like me) who like not having to change mental gears when flying other jets. The point is that you can fly and fight the Hornet just as well as the Viper. Plus , you get to land it on a carrier
BTW, here are some options if you want more “Hornet Flavor” to your HOTAS setup. Check out either our Fighter’s Manual or the early posts in the BMSOFM thread.
