3.7 VR Jitter Help - Valve Index
-
First off - Thank you for bringing us VR!
I have a 2080ti, 32Gb ram and a Valve Index.
I found a lot of jitter initially and messed about with the various settings recommended but only made small improvements.
The big-ticket item for me was to switch OFF the motion smoothing, but leave everything else on (multi-threading & the terrain and water options).
Headset resolution set to 150% (it’s not great in terms of readability, but no doubt that will come with time).
Hope this helps some folks!
Cheers,
Merlin

I’m also using a valve index. I’m using a 1080ti. I tried all sorts of settings yesterday. I’m going to keep on optimizing the setting. So far I’ using 200% with 120refresh rate. I’m guessing the 144hz really eats into something. I left multithread on. However i turned off the water, environment and shadow. I’ll keep on playing with setting today. I’m not sure if is me but the hmcs seems to be lagging but the rest of the image seems smooth.

@spectrclaw multithread is the one that causes most juddering jittering for reasons to complex to explain here. The rest is all about performance.
If you are getting jitter, disable multithread.
If you are getting low performance, disable the others but keep multithread.
If you are getting both, disable them all, because jitter makes game unflyable.

Actually I found as Merlin said, the motion smoothing makes a lot difference. I currently settled on running 180% with everything turned on. I found that MFD legibility wise from 180 to 220 really doesn’t make that much of a difference. I really only care about being about to read off the bulls eye on the bottom left on the MFD. I find that at 150 its still really not that clear. On the 180 I think I should be able to make out the numbers.

putting my two cents here with my config as I have a Valve Index as well.
GPU: RX 6600 XT
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 X (6 core)
MEM: 32Gb
SSD drivesHMD: Valve Index (120Hz)
SteamVR Resolution: CUSTOM 100%BMS Config: renderResolution 1.5, multi-threading, terrain, shadow, water reflections off)
BMS UI Config: AntiA 4, Quality 10In the Benchmark TE on the ground I get around 40FPS and in the air I get around 50-60 which I think is pretty good in this TE. I suppose I could get some more frames if I reduce the clouds but I’m happy at this point.
I found that the AA and Quality setting in BMS UI have a pretty significant impact on FPS.

My 2 cents as well.
Valve Index 150% 90Hz
I9 11900K @5.1Ghz
64Gb mem
RTX3080
M.2 SSDSmooth except if I look at the ground, then it’s a very slight jitter. Not really distracting but that is only flying Instant Actions and TE’s. I have not started a campaign yet. I tried running the Index at 180% but after a while, 15 minutes or so Steam crashes. I’ve had the same issue with DCS for the past few months and now that it’s doing it on BMS as well, I’m thinking it’s a Steam or Index problem.

@Wicked could you check if you have Accelerated GPU Scheduling disabled? https://appuals.com/disable-accelerated-gpu-scheduling-windows-11/
This caused crashes for me in DCS if reprojection was on.

@drsoran I’ll check it out this evening and let you know.
