JHMCS dissappear mid-flight /on the ground
-
Any one experienced this? Any idea why it could happen? I haven’t decreased the jhmcs knob nor touched the relevant DED page
EDIT:
- I use VR
- I’m familiar with DMS down long
- Happen with TAXI/RUNWAY/AIR START
-
@Nickos86 DMS Down long toggles the JHMCS On/Off. Did you press that by accident?
-
Seems an accidental DMS down long…

No. Im familiar with DMS down long. Doesn’t make the JHMCS reappear
-
@Nickos86 then did you do the alignment properly during ramp start?

It happens even at taxi/runway/air start
-
A not properly aligned HMCS will not work well whatever the flight status
-
-
Did you calibrate it pre flight? An important part since 4.36

I’ve tried again today - calibrated prior to takeoff… Then, during a BARCAP, at a certain point - I’ve just got a STORES CONFIG warning and the JHMCS stopped working. Flew below 1M, top 3.5G until this point, 2 FUEL tanks, 5 120C and 1 9M… Not sure what could cause that…
-
@Nickos86 No chance to be the airsource switch? It could be an overheat maybe. Maybe check the fault log.
-
I am convinced you’re not doing your ramp start procedure correctly… Nothing changed here in 4.37 and no reports on that system for ages…
-
I think it’s VR related. Accelerating time in a busy environment (air base for example), turning the head to the right (causing the purple jitter) or things that spike the draw calls - make the HMCS disappear.
-
Not exactly the point of this thread, but to piggyback, I have noticed that my HMCS brightness knob mouse clicks and mapped callback buttons don’t seem to work in 4.37 but that’s just been a limited testing thing, haven’t gone back and played with the HUD brightness switch it should be tied to and didn’t look to see what setting that switch is in because I was testing other things. I have only done drop-in flights right now with the jet running (Instant Action, Benchmark TE ready to taxi, etc.) where HMCS is on but I can’t adjust the brightness basically. I remember having that issue before I
4.35 though and I think it was a switchology issue on my end. Maybe somehow tied together? -

sounds like maybe something in the code got confused, and thinks the HMCS brightness is bound to an analog axis? that’s the only thing that would make such simple callbacks not work, that I can think of.
if you can repro this, I suspect the devs will want to have a look at your axismapping.dat file.
are/were you using AL, when this has happened before? assuming there’s a faulty axismapping.dat (or related config file) that may determine who or what was responsible.
-
@airtex2019 that’s a good point, it getting mapped to an axis would cause that. Only thing I could think of overriding the mouse clicks even. I pulled over all my .xmls from 4.36 with the AL but don’t recall mapping the axis, but I bet that’s what I did and forgot . Away from the computer for at least another 24 hours most likely though.
-
@Snake122 yeah especially if you mapped it to a vJoy axis or something, it would be easy to forget about.
and it’s also true, that there are some axes in game that sometimes (?) respond to both callbacks and analog axis movement … I think the main throttle does, iirc. so it’s complicated, and might explain the confusing/inconsistent behavior you’re seeing
-
I’ve got no axis bound to the HMCS/HUD, nor even a key. It’s not a key issue
-
@Nickos86 I’ve been experiencing the same. Also in VR.
Calibrate on ground, once airborne, no longer functional. Power cycling doesn’t fix it, and DMS down-long does nothing.
-
@S3NTRY I am experiencing the same in VR and it is linked to the use of external or other than 3D cockpit view in my experience. If you stay in the 3D cockpit it does not disappear and works as nomal. I use VRNS to look around instead and that does the job.

Does invoking the
SimVRHMDReset
callback do anything helpful?(I really don’t know, just happened to notice its name…)
