Back into Falcon4 - last time was 1.08....
-
Hi, first post here, and just really wanted to say Hi, and maybe come with a question or two… :=
Falcon 4 is alive I see, and has been all the time I understand. That is good. Last time I really played it was after I think what was the last patch before the F4 team was laid off. Think it was patch 1.08. So… that is many years (20 or something) ago. I checked a few unofficial patches in the beginning after that, but gave it up pretty soon.
Since I´ve playing other sims, I knew that people were still working on it, but I never really checked it out. But - then I read somewhere about VR support - and wow - here I am again, installing Falcon 4 - over 20 years later!!
I´ve been feeling pretty nostalgic the last couple of days. I bought Falcon 4 the day it was released, back in… 98? Actually I bought two copies. One was an ordinary boxed version, but I also got a binder version The game brought my then high end PC to its knees It crashed all the time. I guess many of you are old timers too, so won´t bore you more with this.
But - a BIG thank you to all of you have kept this alive all these years and the team that is maintaining it now. Cause - yesterday I flew it in VR - and oh my god - that was insanely good. Back in 98 I would have never believed it would be possible to have such a Falcon 4 experience. Yeah, the graphics is not top notch for 2022 - but unlike some other combat sim (three letters, starts with a D and ends with a S) the picture is crystal clear in VR. Not hazy/unclear. And it runs smoothly, though I haven´t started a campaign yet. Just did some landing excercises and instant action dogfighting.
I am struggling a bit with my hotas setup. Thrustmaster Warthog with pedals. Trying to understand the best way/simpliest way to make it all work. Sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. (No, haven´t read the manual(s) yet). Is the best thing to set it up in the launcher program? That was the last thing I tried, and it SEEMS to work now. Have to do more testing.
Not to start a discussion here, but this flight model is… different I think. I have to put in a bit more work it seems. I like it
Guess this is all for now. Will try to get through a bit more documentation too

@DrPeedee Welcome back to Falcon. A brand new world. Enjoy the time with many new enhancements and a high quality flight model. Many happy landings.
Greetings from Denmark -
@DrPeedee welcome back! About the FM, all I can say is that ours is in good hands. Two letters, start with J, ends with P. Oh yes, the is a Mav before that as well.

Welcome back! I was in the same position as you, released on my birthday in 1998, frustrations until 1.06, was happy at 1.08 and then adios… Tried Allied Force a few years later but it was just too dated (to me). Came back when an old online pal reconnected and I installed BMS 4.34.0 right after its release and have not looked back. You are in luck as this is the first release with an easy install, easy updater, and the fantastic Alternative Launcher is built in. Don’t use the “Setup\Controllers” to set up the HOTAS, use the “AxisAssign” and “Keymapping” tabs on top of your Launcher screen. Those are the “Alternative Launcher” setups. MUCH easier, type in what you are looking for in the “Filter:” bar, look around. You can also now run 128DX buttons in BMS so I recommend you use a Target script to give every throttle switch position a DX#, makes setting up even easier… and of course search here or just ask!

Welcome back, I just started. I though Played some BMS before I quit the entire sim thing. I honestly had not many crashes back in the days as bought the original the day it came out too…Back then I believe it was OK as long as you had good graphics card. I actually was using two cards as one. Damn I think I still have my first Voodoo cards in the Attic. LOL. I haven’t tried the VR thing yet, but I might just because of this post. hehe.
Welcome back again!!!
