Unsolved Falcon BMS native ACMI export for Tacview - Missing engagement ranges
-
It seems that when a flight is recorded in ACMI format with Falcon BMS 4.36.3, engagement ranges do not appear in Tacview around certain objects which are expected to have them, such as the SA-13.
When reverting to old VHS format, the engagement ranges do appear as expected.
The issue appears to be that such objects are being typed by the ACMI exporter as Type=Ground+Vehicle instead of Type=Ground+AntiAircraft.
Here are examples of an ACMI file missing engagement ranges and a VHS file with engagement ranges, both created today using Falcon BMS 4.36.3

Hi,
I been taking a look at an ACMI file from last night in 4.37 regarding this same issue.
It seems that every unit that is on the ground is tagged as Ground+Vehicle
For example:
Type=Ground+Vehicle,Name=AK-47
This one appears as a box in tacview.
If I change this to:Type=Ground+Light+Human+Infantry
It show a soldier wich I guess is more precise.
This affects specially SAMs as they appear as a ground boxes and not as air defenses and has no rings.
For example:
ff0000b6d0,T=3.904483|6.110936|113.08|321102.69|591445.25,Type=Ground+Vehicle,Name=Fan Song F,Coalition=DPRK,Color=Red,Health=1
This will not show threat circles and will appear as a box in tacview
If I change this to this:
ff0000b6d0,T=3.904483|6.110936|113.08|321102.69|591445.25,Type=Ground+AntiAircraft,Name=Fan Song F,Coalition=DPRK,Color=Red,Health=1
Then the threat circles will appear
A visual example:
Tacview with no edits
And then this same file edited by hand to reflect ground=Antiaircraft
This happens with a lot of objects.
I tried to bulk edit the acmi file with visual studio code but it’s too much work. Infantry, SAMs, etc, becomes a chore.Hope this helps

@mrkline Is this something you can look into?
-
@MaxWaldorf please, let me know if I can be of any help on this.
In any case I’ll try to use the vhs files and check this behavior there too.
Best regards

Ok, I can confirm that the VHS recording actually shows threat circles:
But if we take a closer look some elements like the ZIL-131 shows as a box:
In this case the ZIL-131 by itself is not an object:
But if I edit it and select one of the two variants then it will correctly show as a truck:
In any case this would be something else so… Basically for the threat circles I think is best to keep the VHS format for now.

We’re in contact with Tacview in order to improve the export. Won’t be for U2 though
