Re-installing falcon 4
-
Hi,
I’ve been away for years of F4 and BMS (sorry). I’ve been building a new pc last year and now want to reinstall BMS.
This new build has NO dvd-drive and the files on the games HD are not good enough for the BMS-installer since there are no registry entries for Falcon4. Still got an original cdrom with Falcon4 so is there an option I copy this to an USB-stick at work and then install it from USB-stick or do I need to hotwire my old dvd-drive to the MB and install it from the cdrom?
I’ve no option to permanent build a drive in pc because I’ve the Asus Helios as a new case and there is no option at the front of case (glass plate and fans are in the way).
So what are my options:- copy cdrom to USB-stick and install it of the usb-stick (if that is even possible), or
- open my pc-case and fast hotwire the dvd-drive from my previous pc and install falcon4 from the disc?
- or is there an other option?
Thanks for advice.

@JaRski-S60R you can buy a copy from a seller.
GOG and Steam are selling Falcon 4 for about £5 - cheaper than an external rom drive…just.
-
@JaRski-S60R I humbly suggest to just pay $10 to gog.com and download an updated installer.
It is only barely still possible to run the installer from 1998, on a computer and OS from 2023.

@JaRski-S60R Maybe making iso image is an option, not sure.

I would not waste 1 minute on a solution for the 20 year old F4 DVD, only to get data or other errors. Buy and download the Falcon 4.0 game, install it, and go. It will still be the cheapest sim on the planet…

@JaRski-S60R Falcon Collection from GoG comes with Art of the Kill PDF too, a very good read IMHO!

Hy guys,
to try to make the Balkans scenery working for the 4.37 version, i decided to buy a nes ssd, make a brand new installation of win10pro.
problem is now i can’t install the microprose f4, looks like no win32 programm is running, the wow64 dll is missing, in the system and i can’t run it.Has anybody faced this problem before, and solved it?

@pvi_pantest I haven’t tried … but last I heard it still installs ok on Win11 … which is weird to me, because on paper, it shouldn’t
the big trick is to reboot into “safe mode” w/ “standard vga” to run the installer, because otherwise it gets very confused by modern video cards and Nvidia drivers
anyway, my official recommendation is to pay $10 to GoG.com, who build and maintain modern, compatible installers for old games

Thanks for all the tips.
So I copied my prestine cdrom with falcon4 to an usb stick at work the 1stday I was there.
Tried to launch the installer that evening at home … it loaded but as soon as I selected setup the screen went away and nothing happened.
I did not booted in safe-mode to try again.
So I dropped some money on steam … for less than 4euro atm it was. Installed fine and launched it once just to exit as soon I was once in cockpit. Then launched the BMS-self-installer 4.37 … worked perfect with NO warnings.Did some setup changes to alter it to my 5120x1440 with 240hz screen and all detail to highest … and had some +350fps during the 1st flight but man … am I lost again … need to complete relearn (forgot it + 15yrs ago I played it last) how to fly this plane and use the engine , radar, weapons,… But man, the impact THIS wide screen give is soooo huge compared to 2560x1440.
Thanks again for all tips.
