Using Joystick and gamepad at the same time ?
-
Would it be possible to set up a logitech 3d pro joystick AND a generic xbox gamepad for simultaneous use?
Folks are using the joystick with separate throttle and rudder pedals setups, but I can’t get two controllers to work at the same time. Both work fine on their own, but if both are plugged in then falcon only recognizes one of them. Could this be a windows thing to fix? I’m using 4.35. I have installed .36 and .37 but I’m still using with 4.35 most of the time because I’m still doing a lot of training missions.
-
@Additional-Cats I’ve been using the Extreme 3D Pro and a gamepad since 4.34-4.35. Never had any issues and never had to do anything to make it work.
Are both of them shown in the devicesorting.txt file?
Also, are you configuring them through the new launcher (previously Alternative Launcher)?Lastly, what do you mean you’re still doing training missions in 4.35?
The training missions still exist in 4.37 and have increased and been improved. -
@unkindled no problem too. I try it for a friend and everything work well ! Man, you can use joystick card too ! https://images.app.goo.gl/5GZk2VkjNCW5vYNg7
I use 3 of them. And just buy some buttons/toggle switch. Very practic to make a small pit or custom pit.Cheers

I suspect this could be a case of “I can only select one device in the main controller screen”, right?
If you have multiple dx devices simply select your joystick as the primary device in the controller setup dropdown.
Under “advanced”, you should see all dx device button presses (and axis movements in flight / avionics / view controls).
All the best, Uwe

I got it working with both joystick and gamepad. Thanks for all the great suggestions and help. I didn’t see how to do it the first time.
Now with the 4.37 launcher it is all much simpler.

@Additional-Cats This was my setup about 3 years ago. Had the stick and 2 game pads as one vjoy device in joystick gremlin.
Good luck -
@Quasi_Stellar cool setup
-
Also the can is indispensable.
-
@bbostjan
Also fuel-range ‘calculator’. (I always under-estimate - fumes factor.) - rule of the thumb = 100nm x15 high profile, x20 low/med profile.btw @Quasi_Stellar , did you try to AAR with gamepad ? -there was dude on yt who did in dcs (I don’t know avionics setup - simple/“real”)
-
@white_fang I was never able to refuel with that old Saitek stick. The small thumb throttle flipper just wasn’t sensitive enough. When I got my HOTAS, I was on the boom within 30 minutes.
-
@Quasi_Stellar how were you doing throttle with thumbstick (always snapping back to 50% ?)
is there a vJoy script to make it work in a more “incremental” way?
-
@airtex2019 no… the throttle control on the stick (Saitek ST290). I wasn’t slick enough to do much in JG other than tie the controllers together. I haven’t used JG in some years now. Went with the AL after getting the HOTAS. So memory is not so good there
-
@Quasi_Stellar ah I misinterpreted “small thumb throttle flipper”
-
@airtex2019 You can use VJoy and Joystick Gremlin to map the gamepad’s axis to a VJoy device axis and change it from absolute to relative. In this way the thing you want to slew will not change back to 50% when the thumbstick goes back to center.
For example I use it for TGP zoom (and antenna elevation). Pushing the thumbstick upwards increments and sticks there, e.g. if I zoomed up to 3.5x I will need to push the thumbstick down to decrease zoom.
Funnily enough, you were the one who nudged me to the correct direction to search it.
-
@unkindled yeah I remember … I was just playing dumb to see if Quasi knew of something cooler/better
-
@airtex2019 I’m definitely cooler and better, just not at JG.

@hoover Hi, i’d like to follow up more on this. Both of my Logitech extreme 3d pro are detectable, but BMS can only detect 1 of them(which ever plugged first). Last time i played 2 years ago, BMS can detect more than 1 joystick, and it have index number at the end like (0) and (1). can you help ?
-
@fulkrumabighail I recommend starting a new thread, for the topic of “using two of the same joystick at the same time”
in theory it should work … in reality, nobody is testing that so maybe not. I’m sure with clever use of vJoy/Gremlin it’s possible.

It’s strange that Master @chihirobelmo wonderful AL (alternative launcher) tool doesn’t detect the second joystick.
In the event that it is not detected, I recommend the UCR tool (universal control remapper) together with the virtual joystick emulator VJOY can do with the UCR function button to button and axis to axis, remap all the axes and buttons of the joystick that does not appear in the AL and put it to another virtual joystick that the AL recognizes.
Below I leave the link to the version of the UCR and VJOY that we use in our Wing.

I haven’t tested this scenario but my guess is Chihiro did this right and BMS does not
The way the two enumerate and identify DX devices is quite different, unfortunately.
