Super cool Spyhawk! Thank you! (I am a fan of your stuff! Very nicely made! I think it would deserve a place in our Docs folder. ;))

Updated for 4.34u1 and u2!
What an amazing read. I joined the story on the release day for Falcon4 and stayed on the āofficialā release path until (what we in Australia called) the ā1.08usā patch, which I guess is the same as 1.08i2?
Our squadron was called the 82nd Sydney Hawks and we struggled on for a while (strictly via LAN), doing the Falcon dance, but through a combination of disappointment with the unreliable multiplayer, and competing options (Janes FA18 and racing sims among others) we dropped Falcon completely sometime in the early 00ās.
I am full of admiration for everyone who has had a direct hand in any of the various streams of Falcon development. I would have loved to be involved myself but I am a rubbish coder, despite repeated efforts.
I am wondering though ā¦
1: Is there anyone who has been involved with, or played, every possible version?
2: Is there any other āgameā which has had a longer or more complex development history? -
1.08i2 was an unofficial patch, created by/with the help of iBeta, the same quality assurance group that worked on official MicroProse patches. If you want to read full details about F4 history, be sure to read the āEpopee Falconā PDF (itās linked in the very first post of this thread, or in my signature below - I still need to update it as last time I did was back in 2017).
To answer your questions:
1. Many of old timer have played all versions. I personally never played with the iBeta patches nor the first RP patches, but pretty much everything else. Many people have been involved in the various groups over the ages, but I donāt think anyone have been involved in all groups, especially since many of the early guys worked then on the commercial Allied Force (and kinda alienated themselves from the rest of the community, especially the BMS group).
2. There are a few, but not many. And most of them are well below the scope of what Falcon 4 provides. One such example would be nethack (1987), still updated today. -
I am wondering though ā¦
1: Is there anyone who has been involved with, or played, every possible version? At least I flew 1-2 missions so far using every major versions since SP3. Before that was any version which can be considered āmajorā?
2: Is there any other āgameā which has had a longer or more complex development history?
I cannot check the code but Flanker ā-> Flanker 2.0 ----> LOMAC ā> DCS World has also a very long evolution and history.
I cannot recall any old game which has still living and developed code and was started to develop before 1994. -

Oh hell yes! All RP patches were considered a major improvement over the original game back in the days. eFalcon 1.09 was like a revolution, and SP1 was a truly major step as it āreunitedā two competing groups.

History should never be forgotten, because whoever forgets it, every mistake made, will be doomed to repeat it.
Thanks for keeping her alive.
