Air Defence Radar Stations Network in BMS
-
Hello everyone!
With all the respect to the whole BMS community, I would kindly like to share my thoughts - and yes request if possible - according the way GCI network works in BMS.
As most of us know, if for example we have an AWACS covering us, we have a great picture and support of what is happening around our position and way beyond that.
But what happens when that asset goes RTB or not exist at all?
We are all alone, which is something that would happen under some circumstances, but not the way it happens now.So I would like to call a Heads-Up, and ask if there could be in the future (the nearest the better ) a development so the Radar Sites in BMS would work the same way like AWACS, and they would all be interconnected into one Central Control.
If you add in all this, ground blind sectors, earth curvature, and finally maximum distance coverage,
we could have a great, realistic GCI network working in BMS.
If we would assume there was such a network implemented in BMS, then we would meet the circumstances mentioned earlier, where you could find yourself out of the GCI network’s coverage, either because of distance, or ground/radar fov limitations. Then what?
Then, if @Tumbler31 would like this concept, perhaps we could have F4Radar application giving us the picture coming from this GCI Network, very much more realistic, instead of being able to see the track of every asset flying, either high or low altitudes, in the terrain or above sea.
Another option, the AI DCA fighters would be able to commit on their opponents regardless if they have spotted them with their radars, outside their aircraft’s radar maximum distance. Just with the guidance of the GCI along with appropriate criteria.
If we have L16 functional some time, then all this picture could be shared amongst all L16 capable participants, further more than just ground based radar sites. Fighter aircrafts, the sites, AWACS, even ships could then get a total big picture coverage all together, and vice versa use it to engage targets as necessary.
That’s all my simple and small request… thanks for your time…
Best regards with great respect!

This is an example of radar coverage, and the way it is affected by the terrain shape.
And then I dream of this button in UI map, showing the coverage OF EACH ground radar separately, at certain altitudes that we would chose for our mission planning, instead of the coverage we have nowadays as seen below…

It exist partially as I know. Looooooooooooooooooong time ago just for fun I flew on red side in FF or BMS to see what happens. The GCI provided me information, I just was not able to request picture as I know. I flew a MiG-21 and MiG-23.

It works the GCI. Just fly a very long range mission close to the Russian or Chinese border. If you fly at high you will experience alerted fighters which intercepts your flight. If you fly using terrain following profile you can approach the target very close.

The UI simply does not show the low level / terrain effect. It shows the high alt long range circles.

Thanks @molnibalage
I am talking about completely functional GCI from the ground radars, working the same way like the great AWACS system we have right now.
It would be very realistic to have specific frequency to contact, the same as AWACS, and working or not working radar if it would have been destroyed from opposite force. The UI now showing some very basic coverage, it would be a great improvement for planning purposes if it could show us blind sectors at chosen altitudes/distances, if those were implemented of course.

If there was any luck on this logic, it would also be very useful to have the same option for the SAM systems as well, being able to chose the system on the map and see blind sectors caused from the ground around it.

It would be insanely complicated not mentioning how it works RL. Currently if you have multiple AWACS, what does it do the code? Which AWACS will talk to you following a picture request?

@molnibalage
In ME128 you can encounter multiple AWACS (and tankers). You can talk to any of the AWACS using its frequency, if you are in range (~300nm) -

Similar to combat Flite in DCS , which can show us the radar coverage
