Campaign questions

Hello,
When playing the campaign (Balkans, Korea are the one I’ve flown so far) I notice that I have very few flights to select from in the left side menu. At times just a couple of CAPs, at most. Viewing the whole ATO I can see other squadrons from other airbases have missions planned so I switch over to those.
My question is, what is the reason my start squadron runs out of planned missions? Have we lost too many planes? Are the squadron somehow linked to the PAKs I’m configuring and that is affecting the mission planning? Are there simply not enough targets to attack?
Some insights in how all of this works would be great. Thanks.

@b0bl00i probably a combination of all those, though the number of airframes is likely the main reason.
I believe some planes are retained for quick reaction scrambles

If you ok with planning you own missions and have a squadron that you are the only one who control it then use mission commander to add 1 squadron of your favorite F-16 model.
Place it at your favorite airbase & uncheck its HQ box.Now you have, all the time, aircrafts available and you can create any kind of mission you want.

It is true that lack of sorties is a combo of all you mentioned, although if it is the beginning of the campaign “not enough targets” should not necessarily be an issue. If anything, lack of target availability is more an issue with one type of target no longer being a threat, such as all the SAM sites have been destroyed. Simply prioritize another mission, such as ground attack (E.G. AI, CAS, OCA, etc). You can also affect sortie generation by just changing the Priorities. Feel free to crank up all the Mission type sliders for the missions you are interested in flying. Keep in mind that your type of squadron may also dictate the missions you go on. An example is F-16 Block 50 squadrons are mainly tasked with DEAD/SEAD missions. Block 40’s are much more of a “Jack of all trades…” But ultimately it is the ATO priorities that will decide which sorties a squadron is assigned.
Be careful with un-checking the HQ box. This essentially gives you full control of sortie generation and the AI ATO will no longer task your squadron for any sorties.
Also, take into account the Campaign engine’s limitations. Since the original Falcon 4 days, there are “lulls” during the campaign where the ATO will not generate sorties for hours. This usually occurs during the night-time hours and the only way around it is to either generate your own sortie, or speed up the clock to x64 until more sorties are generated.
And on a final note, if you wish to see the “inner workings” of the campaign (and adjust it on a “strategic level”) check out Mission Commander.
Hope all of this helps.

Thank you all. Very insightful.
I’ll give the mission commander a go!Cheers

Think I managed it:

@b0bl00i you can press resuplly for the weapons list + add all missing aircrafts so you have a complete squadron for your own missions.

@regev thanks for the advice! Might come in handy
