@Baffler Win7-8 no longer officially supported.
If you want to try it, make sure you have all the prereqs installed ahead of time.
- the post-SP1 platform update
- DirectX runtime
- VC redist for both x86 and x64

And because Win7 no longer gets TLS / certificate-chain updates, you may need to disconnect your network cable after downloading the standalone updaters.

@airtex2019 as far as I’m aware BMS still supports Win7. But seems the installer doesn’t?
-
Sorry but not willing to investigate windows 7 incompatibility with installer…
2 reasons:
- Windows 7 is EOL for quite some time and that just not possible to support it
- We’re using Win 10 / WIn 11 SDK to compile BMS now so…

@Tumbler31
Just going by
https://wiki.falcon-bms.com/start-with-falcon-bms/install-updateHardware Requirements
As for current Falcon BMS 4.37 release, a lot of CPU or GFX code has been reworked and now you will need to have more performant hardware in order to play.
Non-VR Minimum System Requirements:
Windows 10 (64 bits) i5 2500K 3.3 GHz 4Gb RAM 3D GFX card 2Gb dedicated VRAM (DX11 compatible mandatory) 15Gb HDD space required

@airtex2019 yeah I know. But we’re still on the ancient DirectX SDK. The updated Window SDK won’t break compatibility if we didn’t remove the
_WIN32_WINNT
statement. -
@Tumbler31 hey we don’t support Linux/Wine either but people still do it… not saying they can’t try. just not something we’re going to actively test or support.
specifically for Win7, I think the issues with TLS support and certificate chains, actually make it more troublesome than Linux right now
(real example: AL was failing to start on Win7, because it made a blocking call to fetch RSS updates, on the UI thread… this call was hanging, apparently due to failing TLS handshake)
-
@airtex2019 could indeed be that the installer/updater suffers from the same issue indeed. But BMS itself should still work under Windows7, i just checked and
_WIN32_WINNT=0x0601
is still there.But ok, almost 4 years after End of Support, I hope not many are still running Windows 7.
