SweetFX for BMS
-
The SMAA alone is going to keep me using this SweetFX. The default MSAA will only smooth edges of polygons, but not textures. The FXAA from Nvidia is nice, but causes my screens flashing in 2D. So far for me this SMAA is better than those two combined.

Hi,
Works like charm for me and did give FPS boost of approx 10-15.
Outside view much better.
Needs some fine tuning for inside 3D pit as my letters are bit “ragged”.
Any advise on which lines(s) to use from the settings to adjust this ?
-
That sounds promising, will also test.
For the reference, here some shots of what gapa gamma can do.
Not again to brag about IL-2, simply because I cannot capture fraps screens in BMS, I used IL-2 to show. Works as well in BMS where I use it.No FPS gain though…but very easy to use and endlessly open for manipulation-yet-and Arty is right here, no vibrance etc changes, all saturation, colour and brightness etc changes via manipulation of three by three color axis:
Default
With various gapa settings, switchable ingame via numpad keys e.g.
Just a few of my used settings
–----------
DefaultGapa
What I love about gapa it is easy to handle and not invasive. What I would like to have is something that increases contrast without brightness change, solely contrast and/or saturation change.
-
Well but it works even with my crappy old Win XP 32 Bit
I followed the steps at post 10/34/35.
I did not update my DX…already on the highest tolerated level for my Win XP.
Also did not change anything in the command lines for the exe.Not yet totally sure what it does and how it works, but thanks in any case Ron!
For those of you who already have high FPS and seek a similar tool with less functions but easy to handle, go for gapa!

Kinda makes it look cartoonish, like Freefalcon

Maybe due to the terrain of theater. The pic above is not Korea. (IT I guess)

can you add gappa profile CrazyTom……pls…?

Will be enough reduce to staturation setting.

Thanks to Ron for this post.
I thought i would give SweetFX a go since my rig wouldn’t allow me to fly with Mutlisampling, hit the FPS to much. So i’ve installed SweetFX as described (using Ron’s settings) and after some initial problems with BMS not loading up I have it working.
Where my rig was slowest (during ramp start) SweetFX has no impact at all on FPS (hovers around 18 FPS). During free flight at altitude above land or sea SweetFX drops my FPS by an average of around 7 FPS which i can live with since FPS are still above 30 and I like the visual improvement.
Also i’ve noticed that load up time from UI to 3d world seems quicker.
Great stuff.

Chaps, the settings above are with my maximum saturation settings, simply reducing it a notch makes it quite pleasing.

You can tune these settings attached until the doc hits ya.:D
Endless options, no need to oversaturate it, just feel it adds to the rather greyish default BMS horizon haze to ground haze, especially at lower alts where there’s less fog in RL.Theatre was IT and if you ever saw photos of Israel you know it often looks like a very lush region and undersaturated in native BMS colors in my very humble opinion, never was there in RL, but observed hundreds of photos and always love films of the region.

Hi Bobby, here a quote from a post in the mods section…
"2nd mod, here added to spare forum space:
Gapa gamma tool by Tomasz Porosinski:This is a small and harmless tool which adds customized colour/gamma settings which sit on top of your desktop/monitor colour/gamma.
With this tool’s presets which are partially based on IL-2 profiles and partially my own, you can have a different colour-wise immersion while in BMS (or any sim/software).Readmes in file, best run it, choose your setting, exit, later de-activate. If it runs while being in BMS, some keys, e.g. radar cursor arrows on keyboard, will only change colours.
So best test your favourite profile in dogfight mode, later just select your setting, exit gapa and fly with the latter profile.
Really easy, keys to activate on NumPad, BMS presets by me on NumPad 2,1 and 4. “2” is my choice for my monitor.
Korea terrain looks slightly less sh**ty with it lol. Also good match with above HUD colour and canopy reflection.
NumPad 6 reverts to default, clicking on the gapa symbol in the taskbar and choosing “Restore Defaults” has the very same effect.http://www.mediafire.com/?ij6z8ruzr295v1j
"If you download that, you have my settings. For BMS I use numpad 2,1, or 4.
It’s not so drastic, but sometimes quite handy.-Cheers

?
Fog is used to be more dense in low level that in higher altitude.
-
Maybe I misnamed it, Dee-Jay. I was talking about haze in the distance, the effect that at altitudes above 5000, depending on weather and region, the view is less saturated and below up to sea level, saturation and clarity increases until you hit the ground and can see clear but less far…so or similar…:)
PS: You are definately right, too much saturation looks overdone and also it’s a question of taste and monitors IMO.

Works like charm for me !!! Thank you!!!

i have installed sweetfx as per instructions but i see no real difference tried split screen didnt seem to work could i have installed wrong. how do i know if its working
-
Tom - thanks a lot for the info on GaPa. What a nice small utility… It allows to make really subtle changes, and BMS looks better on my monitor with the colour balance shifted towards a slightly warmer image, and a bit more contrasty. This is not the case for many games I play so it’s good to have something that permits selective adjustment. Very simple yet very effective.

Maybe insert the file I attach and try again.
It is a bit less saturated than on my other shots now. If you apply it and hit scroll lock on and off, you should see a difference. Backup your file!

First, discard that video tutorial.
Second, Update your directX directly from Microsoft website.
Third, Download the SweetFX from here
Fourth, copy d3d9.dll, dxgi.dll, dxgi.fx and injector.ini to Falcon BMS 4.32\Bin\X89
copy SweetFX folder, d3d9.fx, SweetFX readme.txt,SweetFX_preset.txt, sweetFX_settings.txt to Falcon BMS 4.32\DataFifth, Save to anywhere the Attached File from Ron533 SweetFX settings found on post 10 or by downloading it directly from here
Sixth, Rename it to SweetFX_settings.txt and copy and overwrite to Falcon BMS 4.32\DataSeventh (optional), I also unchecked the read only parameter from Falcon directory, made it run (Falcon executable) as administrator and gave permissions to the user “Everyone” overwrite rules.
Worked like a charm to me.
Cheers guys
Also see
Screenshot at post in forum by Ron533!!3. Run BMS.
It runs with split screen by default.
if you want to see a big difference and verify it runs - switch the vibrance in the settings file
(you can use my attached file from post #10), to 1 [enabled] and change (down in the file) Vibrance value to 1.00.
(I run it at 0.10 now, but it depends on your monitor and other settings as well as your taste.)
You will see a split screen with the right side very “cartoonish” colors now…you can toggle SweetFX on/off by pressing the (default) “scroll lock” button. you will see the “old” falcon look.
(you can edit the buttons in the “injector.ini” file).you can alt-tab to the settings file (you can leave it open) and change values there. save, and alt-tab back to the game.
Press the (default) “Pause” key (next to scroll lock key) - it will “inject” the changes you just made, so you can see it “on the fly”…
print screen takes SweetFX screenshots to the data folder (other than the default screenshot folder).Tweak it and share your screenshots with the settings file attached for us to learn from.
ENJOY!!
Cheers“Setup”/Ron**

TommyGunThanks a lot, TommyGun!
I also like it since it does not effect anything or needs any installer files. Also you only need to place the folder anywhere, hit the exe…THAT’s ALL…amazing. If you forget to disable it after shutting down the PC, the profile will stick, simply run it again and hit default. The worst thing that happened to me was I had to repeat this step, but never anything harmful happened.
Cheers
Tom

brills got it working now just tweaking settings

From what you say I gather that I’ve been doing something wrong. So, once again, and please be patient… I understand I need to uncheck ‘multisampling’ in the UI settings, right? How about the config editor settings, should I also disable the hardware section with all its shaders etc.? Then remains the question of my Catalyst CC settings; should I also leave them all at ‘Application dependent’? thx
