SA -11, SA-17

Hello guys, learnt that about the SA-11, SA-17, each launcher has a tracker unlike the SA-2, how does one carry out DEAD against such defense system… Anyone with good tactics or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,
usually there are multiple ways:
- You can shoot HARMS against each individual launcher
- You can use standoff weapons like SDB, JSOW
- You can fly high and use GBUs
- You can use Mavericks
- You even can use dumb-bombs
Obviously weather is a factor.
With the aforementioned threats i see only one feasable option: HARMs.
Because of the high engagement altitude and capability to launch at <200ft targets.Of course you need multiple HARM platforms and coordination between aircraft/flights for best success.
Alternatively you need multiple missions to complete the DEAD.Standoff weapons could also work, but with those mobile units you are always risking a miss because they start moving.
I’m looking forward to hear other pilots advice on this.
cheers

In both 11 and 17 - kill the snowdrift FIRST its a “D” on the RWR and “11A” and “17A” on the HAS/HAD respectively.
Stand off range 11 miles for the SA11
Stand off range 17 miles for the SA17
Not exact figures but easier to remember ;0)
Only MavJP knows the true numbers.

With my extensive testing with these units here is what I have learned:
They will not fire while they are moving.
They also have the ability to shoot Harms down while the Snowdrift is upThe tactic that I have been playing around with takes two pilots and using a Hunter killer tactic with Standoff weapons.
The key is to get the SA11 or SA17 to track you(SA11 15 miles and the SA17 20 miles) .This gets them to stand still which gives the second pilot the ability to launch SDBs or JSOW on the units.
It has worked in TE’s but have not tried it in Campaign yet.
