Solved BMS Installation Issues and Errors - Can't Update/Can't MP

Hm. We’ve probably run out of the “easy” problems to check for. Since you get a “corrupted file” message, some other things to check might be to
a) verify the torrent download (it has a hash key, I think) or
b) can SSDs go bad? Have you had any kind of instabilities otherwise ? or
c) could there be bad RAM involved in the unzipping from torrent to filesEdit: Just checked option a). I got the full installer from the torrent which is a single file called “Falcon BMS_4.37.3_Full_Setup.exe” of about 4Gb.
I then simply opened that file in 7-zip (right-click, Open Archive) and saw this:
So the Updater.exe straight from the torrent download has a different size to what you had. That means that either your torrent download had problems (you received an incomplete file), or that the install using the downloaded file went bad.
I would recommend that you try and download the torrent once more and before doing anything else, check its content with 7-zip. Then you will know if it looks ok, before proceeding with installing. One thing to check is the size:

@jayb Going to try this now and report back.

After Install:
After I run “update”:
So it sounds like when the update runs, its not getting the full update for some reason…?
Feels like we’ve narrowed it down a bit here.
FWIW, i ran with firewall off, and BMS folder as an exception in Windows Defender.
-
can you use bms downloader to update the updater?
-
Hey Max,
This is what happens when I run the downloader. This is after the update that doesn’t go through.
Also tested after a clean install (with the torrent), and then running the downloader to update only the Updater - I get the same message unfortunately.
-
@CaptnHambre are you 100% sure it is the last full installer?
It really doesn’t seem right…
Reg keys are not read, something is wrong but I can’t tell what…AV? User without priviledges on computer?
You’re the first I see with thoses issues
-
It’s the installer directly from the BMS website - both downloader and torrent (should the latest torrent be build 1329? we noticed that was different than what other folks have).
Anti-virus is just windows defender. I have the install location as an exception.
No other users on the computer.
If I am the only one, maybe the simplest solution is a windows wipe some point soon.
-
@CaptnHambre Try downloading the files on another computer and copy and paste them to zip drive then back to your computer then try installing.
-
@CaptnHambre This may sound like a stupid question but do you have a legit copy of Falcon 4.0 installed?

Anti-virus is just windows defender. I have the install location as an exception.
Can you maybe try adding the download folder where you store the BMS files as an exception as well, or turn off defender altogether during download & installation?
Cheers, Uwe
-
@Kavelenko Hey. Yes, I do. Steam version.
-
@hoover THanks Hoover, just tried this. Moved the downloader to my D drive and made the entire drive an exception. When I run it I get this error:
Could it be because Falcon is on my D drive? Seems like things break as the downloader outputs something to my C temp drive.
-
@CaptnHambre Possibly a previous version was not uninstalled properly? Or D drive has errors?
-
How much space have you got left on C:?
-
@MaxWaldorf 400 Gigs on C

@Icarus said in BMS Installation Issues and Errors - Can't Update/Can't MP:

This is definitly possible, maybe even likely… Not sure how to figure out if it’s the case or not though. I’ve done so many reinstalls at this point…
-
@CaptnHambre For reinstall. I would uninstall with uninstaller then remove all entries from registry that has to do with BMS. Then reinstall BMS. This worked for me a long time ago when I screwed up an uninstall. For disk errors use chkdsk and sfc /scannow.
-
@Icarus Thanks. I’ve done a reg clean on BMS in the past but will try again tonight.
-
@CaptnHambre I think (Max correct me if I’m wrong) the “Base.7z.001 not available” message is a networking error.
Anything unusual re networking? (Corp or school network, with a proxy or VPN?)
-
@airtex2019 means the user is either unable to download the file, no space on drive C (temp folder) or his IP / ISP is blocked by our provider or my rules (which are here for a reason and won’t change)…
