3d cockpit view centre
-
Sorry I didn’t make myself clear. I’m using trackir 5 and the mouse wheel function no longer works! Right now I have to move away a little bit from the screen to zoom out in order to see the MFD, but this puts me a in a little bit uncomfortable reach from my HOTAS. The other trick is to center the track ir a little bit closer to the screen, thus when returning to the normal position (slightly away) then the 3d view would zoom out but this requires trial and error to get the perfect view.
I just want to know if there’s any method to set the default 3d center view according to our own preference.

use L key. has 3 states iirc one is to default zoom.
-
I tried the L key but does not work in Trackir mode.
Using the tricks I mention has 1 major disadvantage which is losing the centering deadzone.
-
Works for me
-
You mean while using TrackIR in 3dcockpit mode?
-
Yes. I mostly use it in modding to spot - look at details…

Increasing field of view would allow you to see the mfd’s, but moving the default view might be complicated if i remember another discussion correctly. In the bms launcher select configuration, and the setting is in there and the default is 70 i think, i use 80. If you increase it you see more area, too much and you might see too much. It can be fine tuned in the cfg file in your user / config folder under setting default fov. Just change the number there if you want further tweaking.

Do you want it zoomed out, or do you want to see the MFD’s at your normal zoom?
In case of the first, you can move up a bit closer to the TIR sensor, center it, then back away to normal position. Might take a few tries to get it right.
In case of the latter, same thing, only you’ll be looking upwards now , then recenter, and then look back down. Again, it may take a few tries to get it right, but it’s easier than the first technique.
That being said:

it’s personal preference, perhaps, but I wouldn’t put the zoom on the Z-axis of your TIR. Under Settings in BMS, you can select an option to use it as if you were just moving your head forward. Can’t recall the exact term now, but I know that will also “enable” your mouse wheel FOV again.

Suggestion to Devs: as this question appears to be popping up on the board every few weeks/months or so, can we have some option somewhere in the next update to choose 3D view center point?

If you have a HOTAS with analog axis, you can map one of these to the zoom function (advanced controller setup).
Works for me perfectly, I have TrackIR too. -
Arty- can you please provide me the .key file please? My L does not give me the function you mentioned.
Olgoat5/Eagle-eye - yes there is workaround on centering the TIR, and later repositioning it. However as I mentioned previously, you would lose the dead-centering at the “preferred” center view. I prefer to just pan slightly down instead of zooming out. Having said that, I think it’s better to have a dedicated option on the next update.
-
well u have it. It’s the keystrokes.key file.

Just to add support to maxiz1’s original request, I too think being able to set the center of the dead zone in the ‘preferred center view’. By default, this ‘dead zone’ gives me the HUD and ICP, but not the MFDs. As mentioned above, there are ‘tricks’ to get your TrackIR centered such that the MFDs will be visible, but his center view then becomes ‘unstable’ compared to the original ‘preferred center view’ – and when you pan up to that preferred view, you again hit the dead zone that you don’t want to be there anymore.

Please, please, please put this in. Perhaps like the guided view head position options for the “2d cockpit”.

Temporarily lean your head forward then reset TrackIR [fF12] and then sit back to your normal position.

Got this issue immediately after installing my first TIR. For me it killed the sim I’m even thinking of selling it now (((
None of the ‘solutions’ itt are real solutions. The center’s beauty are deadzones, and reseting with tilted head just gives stupid jittery play… I’m pssd off at idk who, but this feels really stupid not to be implemented already…
