A-G Training mission faulty
-
HARM mission, plane is flying with 4 harms according to SMS, outside view shows plane to be carrying 4 AGM 88, mission loadout shows it to have 2 onboard. Master arm cycled through safe to on, Harms will not leave the rails.
-
Once you have locked up a tgt you do have to hold the launch button down for quite awhile before they launch.
-
The HARM TE has freakin’ 4 HARMs on the jet which confuses the system. If I remember correctly the stations (inboard v. outboard) selected by default are wrong and you have to select the opposite pair first. They don’t launch in every possible order.
-
You are correct. the plane can carry a maximum of 2 HARMS and as for the release problem I am aware that the Pickle button requires a 2 second hold down. It was the radar displays at fault. I think the MFD table of targets needs looking at again, the HAD works fine, the other HARM aimers seem to cause a stall in re accessing the main HAD screen.
-
Not sure if I’m understanding correctly, but if so, you cannot have the HAD and WPN page open at the same time. If you reference the HAD, the WPN page will ‘reset’ to HARM mode selection.
The HARM WPN page works fine and I recommend POS PB or POS EOM whenever possible.

which is interesting, as I dont recall it being in the procedures that you need to hold it down. interesting.

Hmmm…what do you mean by in the procedures? I read this somewhere before I started HARM Training, though when starting training on a new F-16 skill I go to the original Falcon Manual before I move on to the BMS ones, so it maybe have been there that I read it.

Yah, seems to me I have to hold the launch button down for a second or two then it will fire… perhaps there is a some form of data transfer before launch. Just a guess.
-
Shouldn’t require a prolonged weapon release press, at least for POS or HAS shots. I have no good doc on HAD. That being said I press the button down and hold it like my life depended on it when it comes to shoot a HARM in anger.

4 HARMs have been hack-loaded so you get more out of the TE in one sitting. It’s not normal to have four HARMs loaded, and can only be done by external influence.

As I recall if memroy is still working right, doubtful at my age but there you go. The button has to be held as data is transferred from onboard computer targettting into the weapon target and tracking system so its fie and forget, but if it hasnt been told where to go and how far then it isnt going to have any idea where the target is.
That came out of a flight manual I have for the F-16 from about 1980 ish. So that would explain the delay in firing rather than press and off it goes. Data BAUD rates back then werent as hot as they are today. (Bytes At Uniform Density, for those wondering what it was) oh god thats made me feel old now.

I mean in the -34 it doesnt mention anything about holding down the weapons release to fire them, and that it does for AMRAAMs. So Im a bit confused as to why that might be. This one is a tad newer than the 80s, either.

You do need to hold down the pickle to release the HARM.
In CCRP bombing, you also need to hold down the pickle, but I suppose you are not talking about that.
IRL, you also need it :
- for JDAMs, JSOW, actually most smart weapons
Its the time needed to transfer data to the weapon, align the inertial guidance, etc…. - for ripple bombing.
The idea is : if the pilot is not pressing the pickle, no bomb goes off. Its a kind of safety.

Ill have to have another read, then. Must have missed it.

I cant find this info either, but anyway, that is how it works. Might need to update the Dash 34 then.
