AIM 9 question
-
@Dee-Jay, @l3crusader the file, as best I see it is, Data/Sounds aim9envs.ogg when I play it in winamp it is a 0.01 second file, my guess is it is constantly looping in game/sim. Any ideas? Pretty sure it’s the 9P it is the missile in AIM9 TE tutorial. Oh and this whistle is when I am unlocked.
Best regards.

Can’t tell you, do not have BMS here.
Any chance to make a small fraps vid or .mp3 record?

I think I know whats wrong….
Check out in your launcher -> Configuration, and verify that in the Mods tab, M2K dedicated sounds is NOT on. Dont forget to apply changes if you make some.

Not on mate, ie unchecked. Did you watch the vid? If so, can you concur I’m not getting confused with a stall warning. Thanks a bunch l3crusader.

Definitely not a stall warning. No reason to have one anyway, your AOA is low and your speed at 270 kts.
This is definitely a AIM-9 sound pb.
The sound is supposed to be different when pointing the seeker at the ground or at the sky, but it is still supposed to be a growl.
I could not see in your SMS page the AIM-9 type, is it P or M/X ?
With an AIM-9P you dont have any sound when not pointing at a valid heat source ; so I would say AIM-9M with a sound pb… maybe the ogg file, maybe the .dat file indicating the wrong growl sound.
Check out in our install folder -> Data -> Sim -> Misdata, open the files aim9p.dat, aim9lm.dat, and aim9x.dat with notepad. Check out the bottom of the file, and tell me if you see :
sndAim9Growl
sndAim9Uncaged
sndAim9EnviroSky
sndAim9EnviroGroundfor any of the files and what are the values next to these variables.
Normally you have these variables only for the AIM-9P. AIM9M and X use the default ones, so nothing is specified in the .dat files. -
Very odd. Not an F16 stall horn, I think. Sounds different and you should get ‘Warning, Warning’ approaching stall. On the back left panel there is a test button (white push-down button) that you can use to test the stall horn, just see if it’s the same sound.
Also HUD symbology is different than I’ve seen …. maybe a different configuration option that is not commonly used, i.e. ‘normal’, just not common … but it looks odd to me.
Have you done/added any mods … especially sound packs?

With AA mode and radar on ACM, its perfectly normal Why not, but Dogfight mode is quicker to get and basically do the same thing.
+1 for the sounds pack, did you install anything ? You said you have only the stock install, do you confirm ?
EDIT : what exact TE were you in ? I cant recall a single training TE where you have 4 AIM-120 and 2 AIM-9.

Yes I have mods, but this vid is with all sound as stock, always keep a backup HUD symbology could be because I have FCR in ACM. Only mods on in this vid are skins/textures by JanHas. Will try the test button and come back.
I’ll check it out and report back.
Many thanks for the help gents.

Right …. OK.
Here’s what you ‘should’ hear (AIM-9X sound is turned a little low), also stall horn around 0:30 …

Here is what I see in Data/Sim/Misdata;
aim9p.dat LAST 4 LINES
–-------------------sndAim9Growl 280
sndAim9Uncaged 279
sndAim9EnviroSky 281
sndAim9EnviroGround 281aimplm.dat LAST 5 LINES
maxGTerminal 35
maxGNormal 35
engLocation -4.66 0 .2
foxType 2aim9x.dat LAST LINES BETWEEN HASHES
engLocation -4 0 .2
maxGTerminal 40
maxGNormal 40
MinEngagementRange 0
MinEngagementAlt -1
ProximityfuseChange 75
SecondStageTimer 0
SecondStageWeight 0
deployableWingsTime 0
mistrail 47
misengGlow 0
misengGlowBSP 0
misgroundGlow 0
proximityfuserange 1000
errorfromparrent 0
ZoomFactor 4
foxType 2eof
As you can see only the first .dat file has the lines you mentioned, does this make things clearer mate, or have I just muddied the water further !?
Best regards.

Yup that is what I thought, I do get the growl/buzz, but it’s the whistle that’s buggin the begeezus outta me!! Like I said earlier, I think this is the offending file … Data/Sounds aim9envs.ogg … But it is only 0.01 sec when played in winamp. For some reason it seems to be looping, also inconsistantly. As you can see the file is in the main Sounds dir. Hope this might shed a litle light on things.
Best regards.

Here is what I see in Data/Sim/Misdata;
aim9p.dat LAST 4 LINES
….
All looks same as mine ….
-
Try play this file;
aim9envs.ogg
See what you think, from the file name it is obviously an aim9 sound, and I’m assuming the envs part refers to enviroment. Why tho would it be in the main sounds dir, along with a few other aim9 files?
I think I’m more puzzled now than before I started asking questions

Can’t help with that …. I don’t really understand the DB and it’s interactions. All I can do is confirm that your AIM9 data file and mine appear the same and I have ‘normal’ in-game sounds where you (for some reason tbd) do not.
Have you recently re-installed the sim? Was there a time before when you AIM9 sounds were ‘normal’?
-
This is a recent install, and to be honest I can’t say wether they were ever normal as it took me close to a year to gat a HOTAS profile working

From what I see the .dat file appear normal.
The aim9envs sound is a growl for me, and lasts 2 seconds. The aim9envg lasts 3s, a growl too.
It is supposed to be in Data/sound.
You should have 4 sounds starting with aim9 :
- aim9envs (for pointing at the sky)
- aim9envg (for pointing at the ground, a bit “warmer” than the previous one)
- aim9growl - very low growl
- aim9penviro - normally silent.
Do you have all 4 ?
-
Stop talking for nothing…
Un-install then re-install … Do not install mod.
You will have no problem.

Yep… that will work.
Save your logbook and keyfile before…
