How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
-
You don’t need to do it this way. Once you’re in dogfight mode, you can quickly switch to the various modes using TMS. There’s no need for fancy programming. The F-16 HOTAS is efficient… Focus on mapping your setup as closely to real as possible.

Ok, I will have to learn about that since I don’t know how to set TMS on my HOTAS.
In the mean time, can you tell me how to use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?
Thanks,

Read page 52 of the Dash-1, and set the TMS switch on your Fighterstick to the four TMS functions (up/dn/left right)
Quickest way? Go to setup, controllers, scroll through the commands and find TMS Up, Dn, etc, click each one and push the TMS switch in each direction to set it.

No. You’re missing the point. You don’t know what does what on the stick and you’re going to create some frankenprofile that is going to (quite honestly) spoil the sim. Don’t try and re-engineer the HOTAS system. The fighterstick is a replica of the F-16 stick, so set it up like one!
So many posts with guys getting frustrated because they can’t custom-script the fighterstick to use the 3rd layer of the amber-coded, super-secret keypress-emulating thingy. Keep. It. Simple. Stupid.
Now go blow some shit up!

I see a lot of frankenprofiles which is really sad when it’s a Cougar or Warthog. Just because the profiler software can do 27 layers doesn’t mean you should use them all.
The CH software can produce a Shift+A type command but I really recommend against doing the whole “profile presses invisible keyboard, use default keybinds” song and dance. The obvious downside is the conflict between modifier keys when you press more than one joystick button at a time. Make a copy of the BMS.key file and name it how you want and edit that a bunch to suit you personally. Look at the diagram of the F-16 HOTAS and then your controller and put things where you want them. When that’s all over consider any extra commands really carefully (do I really need this hands-on? could it be keyboard?).
After you’ve decided what you want make it happen in direct DX binds. CH software is better than TARGET in that you have 4 whole virtual controllers to work with instead of one. With that and the scripting language there’s no reason at all to use the virtual keyboard stuff.

Wow. I certainly was not expecting a simple question to be answered with such distasteful replies.
Sad what has happened to the flight sim community over the years.
Used to be that people would help you out and answer the questions posted.Sure, I understand that people feel there is a better way to go about this, but why not answer the question and then give opinions? Withholding the answer is really immature or self righteous - I guess one can decide which they want to be.
This tiny community really should work together rather than pissing people off and driving them away. For any of those looking for the answer, I did find it out by myself.
It is quite simple.
For “alt” functions just type ALT
For “ctrl” functions just type CTL
For “shift” fucntions just type SHFI hope this allows any and all individuals to do whatever they so desire with their HOTAS programming setup.
Good luck and have fun!

If you think answering a question with care as to the outcome instead of a simple fact is distasteful, you need better taste. Someone wants to tickle a polar bear which is more respectful, advice that they are dangerous animals or directions to the zoo and which fences are short? The community also has to deal with the person with noble independence coming back with “guuuuuys my profile has a problem.”
I was going to post a link to the online help but I couldn’t find it.
http://www.stickworks.com/keycodes.htm
http://www.stickworks.com/contents.htmIt’s actually a little hard to find because the CH programming is so useful and geared toward NOT doing the virtual keyboard thing that it’s hard to find the tiny part that is for that.

FrederfNah, you guys were just being difficult.
Your example, while interesting, is not appropriate to what happened here. This is after all a “CH” forum to discuss the functions of CH gear - asking about basic functionality should not lead to this type of self righteous response. Perhaps I have been flying versions of this sim for the past 15 years and perhaps I have a finely tuned way of doing things that work for me? Who do you think you are to feel that it is your right to exert your way of doing things upon me?It was easy enough to answer the question or to keep one’s mouth shut.
If you want to live that way, that is your choice.
I believe in helping people, not being a pain in their butt. Again, giving me the simple answer and then telling me there is a better way would be the respectful thing to do.
Apparently I am asking for too much from some people. I guess I need to go ask questions elsewhere (as I did already - thus giving me the answer I was looking for). One of the first posts I make here, with just a simple question, and I get a bunch of garbage in response - nice to know what I am dealing with here.

Oh the drama….
Everyone that posted here was trying to help you. Turning around and saying that we’re all distasteful, immature and self-righteous was a unique response on your part – slow clap. We provided you with our opinions and in turn you shit on us.
You’re welcome.

Trying to help me? Odd.
hhmm…I asked a simple question - you did not answer it. I kindly asked you to answer the question again. Your reply? “No.”
(perhaps you should read the thread again since you have forgotten here)You want to decide what is best for me - someone you know nothing about?
By that logic, your first set of advice could have been “first buy a new computer”.My first thought was to ignore your original response, but I didn’t actually think someone was intentionally being difficult, but perhaps did not read the OP carefully, so I asked again.
See the title of this thread?: “How do I use alt, ctrl, shift functions with CH fighterstick?” Well if you genuinely feel that refusing to answer the question of a post which asks a specific question and instead give out other advice is the proper way to behave, then I apologize for my response to you.
I never thought that someone would try to “help” that way, but I guess that could be my ignorance. Perhaps you can realize that by that same logic any time anyone asks any question on the forum, you can reply - “first buy a new computer - I’m just trying to help”.The forum is made by its users…
(sorry, I have spent enough time on this thread. I shall move on. Say as you wish - you may have the last word if it pleases you)
