How many axis in TrackIR with BMS
-
On TrackIR website it seems to indicate only pitch and yaw axis functionality for Falcon 4.0 and Allied Force. I this true for BMS also

6 degrees … Roll, pitch, yaw, x, y, and z.

Before you shell out extra and most likely hard earned cash for TIR, check out the DelanClip and FaceTrackNoIR / OpenTrack / FreeTrack combo. Same functionality, much better build quality, open source with support for standard webcams at 1/4th the price (and 6 degs of freedom also
All the best, Uwe
PS: Not meaning to derail the track, but I feel it’s always worthwhile pointing out existing alternatives.

If my TrackIR ever breaks… then i will go Opentrack (3 point-tracking). TrackIR for today standards is overpriced imo… and Opentrack is most convincing.
Opentrack is written by Sthalik
Opentrack is Free and cheaper than DelanClip it wont get.

I don’t think the TrackIR camera ever breaks. Until a year or so ago, A few people were still playing with TIR 3! Unfortunately, it’s a different story with the Track Clip Pros… wasn’t there a place where you can order a pre-built DelanClip?

A lightning, or stumbling over USB cable can sometimes “flash” the EPROM (memory) in TrackIRs. Happened to me and Naturalpoint replaced my device. There is no fix for that unless they do it.

Yeah, I still have a Trackir 3, with 6DOF expansion, and works like a charme!

Well, nothing you can do about lightning, really. As for stumbling over USB cables… well, if that happens, some cable-tidy work is in order! My PC is up against the wall so no real problem there!

Sweet!!

i stumbled over the cable…and it caused a “shorty” flashing the chip . .dont ask me how, but back in days NaturalPoint sponsered us with 4 units per year, so it wasnt a problem to get a new one.

Well I have been using Free Track but since Windows 10 my ps3 eye will not function, so I am looking for an alternative. I tried buying a different web cam and I screwed it up trying to remove the ir filter. So I was thinking of going the Track ir route. Also noticed that DelanClip uses the ps3 eye also, so I know that wont work for me.

I am using PS3 Eye with Win 10 x64 Pro Edition without any problems. Do you have the latest drivers or are you using some old ones?
-
My son has had good results with a logitech quickcam pro with 2 layers of exposed film mounted over the lens (/w a home-built IR clip for about $10 in parts and FTNoIR / Pointtracker plugin)
All the best, Uwe

I consider myself easy on equipment, yet I managed to break 2 TIR Trackclip Pros. The device has a design weakness where the rotatable LED holders attach to the headset clip. Cheap, thin plastic. Ordered a Delan clip as a replacement. The Delan clip design lacks elegance, but it sure is reliable and durable.

Still have my TIR 3 Pro, which will be 10 years old by now, I’m sure.
EDIT: 12 years in fact! Ordered it 4th Feb 2005!
