3dsmax for Falcon Bms-models: specific tips, videos and screens
-
If you want some help with UVW unwrapping I can lend a hand I have dabbled with this in the past and 3D modelling
It continues…:-). Rawmaterial to the gear, weapons and Ir-pod. I tried some uv-unwraps and used a checker and it´s working just fine too. Making good textures seems to be pretty hard. Ah well, time will tell.
Hasta luego!

Hey
Is there any chance of re-using any texturemaps in the Falconfolder If the sole intention is to use it to learn and if possible in 3-4 weeks, share it with the community? I´m starting to figure out this 3d-stuff but the texturing is just above my league for now. There are alot of useful maps to use as in gear, weapons etc. If i were to use it I would OFC give the creator the creds if I had the chance. Ask permission to use, is easy when its signed. (OMG Janhas! You have skills m8!) but what about all the others without? Sry for being so noobish on this one. I cant really understand this “Ownership” within a freeforall sim. Please enlighten me!
Thank you in advance!

IMO it’s harder to map a new model to a existing texture. You end up having to stretch and distort the map to fit the texture. Some things work better than others e.g. wheels. I would suggest learning how to mark efficient maps first.
The image of the model you posted look ok, seems it may need some work on the smoothing groups. I would go that before the mapping.

In the description there is a link to F4browse and LE-program and in the LE-folder is the manual with complete guides on everything you need to know about importing and editing…:-) How could I have missed that tut. THANK YOU! It shure isnt easy to gather the info you need, if you´re not keen on asking a thousand questions to the poor souls that already have made the leap. Maybe there is a reason as in the words meaning in swedish political processes: Tröghetsprincip = Lets just do it really, really hard for anyone to make a change and in that we make shure there is quality in the changes that infact do take place. I cant say I make that pass, but I will try anyway. If I can make it, ANYBODY fairly interested can. Ofc i´m not close to exporting/importing but there are crucial things to know about the modeling and texturing that was indeed very nice to get now.
I would also like to thank Arty for his Hotlist: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?13653-Arty-s-Hot-List
Back to reading.
Falcon Bms Forever then!

Extremely slow progress, but nevertheless going forward (or sideways)

wrong photo link?

Yeah sry! Updated.
Nothing to see really, but I´m proud as hell. Its coming along but in other areas then the actual geometry. I´m reading up on texturing atm and playing with these…http://dev.quixel.se/
They are free atm, by choosing “legacy” version, if anybody is interested. Swede PowerCheers

Yeah well its a painful process…but I´m moving forward, slowly.
Just for kicks I had to test if it would show up in OGLOD.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6235336/Sk%C3%A4rmklipp%202014-12-10%2023.15.04.pngSo I´m gonna finish this model and learn in the process and hopefully contribute with less complicated models that needs a refresh. In 3-4 weeks that is.
Cheers!

The Draken indeed is complicated. If you truly want a chance to see it in BMS, you might start with a 3D model of ‘the Scandinavian front’ (Strike Fighters 2 mod): afaik they will grant permission to use existing 3D models for use in e.g. BMS. Worth a try

Nice!
Yeah well my intention doing this is to learn 3ds max and maybe in the future be able to contribute to this amazing Sim/Community. I´v seen parts of the DB now and it could need some work, to say the least. I am also more then willing to give full control and right to the Bms-team ofc. That is not the case for some of the great artists out there. The frustration of reading some of the posts about those matters was infact what got me started. Not to say I cant understand every perpective, I just got tired of myself crying over wanting other peoples work. Why I tried to import my model was to get comfy with the tools used. Imho, the fact that there is no FM or realistic use of it in any active theater, kinda breaks the idea of implementing it in the first place. Oh, my 3d-model of the J35J is not worthy of being called a J35J, as that would be an insult in its state.
Cheers!

Hey guys. I´m pretty ok with 3ds max and the model is going forward. What I need now is help in getting it into Falcon engine, and that is a mess for me,. If there is someone with good exp with that, I would very much like to meet up in some ts channel to get some good mentoring with this stuff. It´s all about learning doing this airframe and further on I would focus on what is needed before anything. Its still going forward and it will be finished.
Cheers
