Nordic Theater- Developer Copy
-
So I messed with this some more this afternoon, but I’m still not quite understanding something.
I’ve been experimenting with Monster’s terrain tools. The Nordic terrain posted above uses the stock Korea tileset, but it only uses a subset of the available tiles. When you look at the terrain- fly over it- it looks like this:
My idea is to change from the Korea tileset to another tileset, like Nevada, but then change the coloring of the desert to a more snow color. The desert to snow transition should be easy as swapping out the tiles. But it’s the fundamental placing of the tiles onto the terrain I don’t understand.
If I understand correctly, when the terrain is built from the very beginning using dem2terrain, it creates the theater.bin file. The theater.bin file is what tells the terrain which tile should be placed in each location. Monster has a tutorial on how to place an individual time, but what I think I’m trying to do is change the entire fundamental way of how the tiles are placed…
I guess I don’t understand why those particular tiles are placed the way they are. They don’t match at all. And I’m not sure if what I want to accomplish can be done with terrain editor, or if I need to rebuild the terrain from scratch. Which, by the way, I tried to do but I broke something.

You want to change the color to black and white?
Change in Falcon for winter season, it will be easier. If I understand correctly, when the terrain is built from the very beginning using dem2terrain, it creates the theater.bin file.
Dem2T … does not create BIN file, only builds new terrain files
L2, O2, MEA (MAP).
TDF for Cate
CSV for TacEdit
Or are you talking about SRTM *. BIN?The theater.bin file is what tells the terrain which tile should be placed in each location.
Yes, but first you need to save it in L2 file:
(x, y) = Texture Offset Number (Tile number in BIN)
It does initially Dem2Terrain, then you can use the (old) Terrainview, or more advanced Cate and TerrainEditorMonster has a tutorial on how to place an individual time, but what I think I’m trying to do is change the entire fundamental way of how the tiles are placed…

I think it’s easier to build terrain from scratch.
Make a new terrain files in Dem2Terrain
You should build new BIN file, but easy for you …
Below is my BIN and tiles from Somalia, and Cate scripts written specifically for this BIN file.

Put these files in your theater and use CATE. It is very simple and easy to understand.
If any problems or you have any questions, I am ready to help you…Cheers,

Does GTM work already?

I’m sorry, I don’t know what GTM means?

I haven’t tried it, but probably not. By all means download the files and try it out for yourself and see, though.

Please Reup this Theater, big thank you.:-)

This is only clocking in at 9mb, so I’m not sure if it’s the same package. The dates match, and it’s in BMS naming format so it might work.

Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.

Hello,
the Theater crashed after Selection:(
-
There’s no objects folder in that download. That’s why.
Copy your base BMS objects folder located at \Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Terrdata and paste it into your \Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Add-on Nordic\Add-on Nordic\Terrdata folder and give it a shot.

Hi,
My question- is somebody still working on that map?The reason is simply: I was crazy enough to download and took a look over it. The tiles are completely messe But I love that area. It reminds me about the good old Ef2000 times.
However- I was stupid enough to start some Tests. After 50 hours I was able to correct all coastlines.
My Plan is making new textures and make some Tests with Highlights Resolution maps. But I will Need some Helps. map for the Planing map, TACAN datas and How to Insert. Same for ILS. I wont give any Garanty that I will be able to complete it. But I will try.
So- looking forward for all answers coursed my questions.
Cheers

TomHi there my friend Tom.
Well if you want, i can give you all the needed knowledge in order to create your navigation file (stations+ils.dat) as also from where to find some real data for it.
We can talk in Reinhard’s “Falcontower” Teamspeak server, if you want pm me for details ;).
Have a nice try buddy and Thank you for all your support!

Tom,
I don’t know what tiles you have, but some stock winter-type tiles would probably work very well. Maybe winterize your Korea tileset that is so nice?Agreed that this theater has real potential for interesting scenarios, but it needs an awful lot of work. If you got the coastline done…well, then I would say that this theater just became a feasible project.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Along with some Norwegian F-16s, some of the jets we are pretty sure are coming in 4.33, eg. F/A-18 and Viggen, will absolutely shine in a Nordic theater.

Tom, you probably already know this site, if not: it has a lot of useful info on (Swedish) airbases:
