Getting Elite Rudder Pedals to Work
-
Hello Everyone,
This is my very first post, and I look a few pages back but not all of them.
I just got a HOTAS Cougar and Throttle which are awesome and solid controllers. I also purchased an Elite Rudder Pedals and cannot get them to work in BMS. The work in the HOTAS cougar control panel, and work under the Toe Break area in BMS Advance Flight Control Menu. But they are not getting registered as actual rudder pedals in the Main Controller Setup for BMS.
Can someone help me PLEASE!
Also I am new to the HOTAS and haven’t Flown Falcon 4.0 since 2004, so if anyone has advice or pages I must visit please let me know. But the rudder pedal issue is frustrating.
Thanks,
Joe (Trigger) -
Ha! u got the bid on e-bay… Found u…
I read somewhere that needs 2 HOTAS to make it work as it can’t control all axes.

Yeah, I already have a HOTAS and Throttle, I just needed the Rudder Pedals. But when I hook it up, they work in the HOTAS control panel, but not in F4 BMS. When I used it in FSX I noticed it was under Antenna. Don’t understand why. I don’t know if I need to configure it a different way or use it independently. Hopefully someone here can help.

They can be made to work.
Mine worked for years.
someone will be along soon to help. -
Check the controller setup. Could be that the rudders are controlling another function in BMS and not controlling YAW. I believe that was the case with my pedal initially. I use Thrustmaster RCS Pedals. If the Cougar CP sees them, then it SHOULD work in BMS. Check the BMS advanced setup.

I just got a set of Elite rudder pedals, too. (Ebay!) They work…well, they did. Actually they do work but I did something in BMS, some minor configuration change, and now I can’t get them to work in BMS. Would someone please take a minute to walk me through the process of getting BMS to recognize the rudders in the configuration and advanced configuration screens? I’ve tried everything I can think of without any success yet.
Foxy does recognize the rudders and they work. And I am using a Cougar profile that supports the rudders (Jags SP3) so this should be working. Although sometimes I have to unplug the Cougar and plug it back in for everything to come up. I’ve had the rudder go missing (as per the Foxy test screens) and get it back after a replug. Same for some of the buttons on the Cougar stick.

Still fighting this. In the advanced controller options screen, my only options for rudder axis control are keyboard and mouse. Shouldn’t it be able to select rudder pedals, too?
Help?

I got this working. Here’s how to do it: With BMS NOT running, unplug the Cougar USB cable from the computer. Run BMS and go to the controller configuration screens. You won’t find the Cougar, or shouldn’t because it’s not detected.
Next, I plugged the Cougar in and BMS crashed. I then restarted BMS and it detected everything correctly, including the rudders.
I have not yet tried it, but I don’t think you have to actually crash BMS for this to work. Simply starting it up with the Cougar disconnected, and then shutting it down, plugging the Cougar in, and restarting BMS should work just as well.

Now I’m having trouble making nose wheel steering work. I’m using a Cougar profile that does have NWS assigned to the appropriate button (top right of the stick) but it’s not working. I also have not found the keystrokes that manually activate NWS. Pretty annoying, to be unable to steer while taxiing.

it is “?” or shift + /
-
Yeah, thanks! I couldn’t remember or find it on the keyboard chart.
The Foxy profile seems to be right but the S1 button doesn’t toggle NWS like it’s supposed to.
-
No problem
I know you’ve heard it before but, that a perfect button for a DX call back, since it uses a modifier
-
I haven’t heard that before, and I haven’t the faintest clue how to do a directx callback, assuming that’s what dx stands for.
-
Oh, sorry then.
Yes, directx.falcon>user>joystick>generic>Kolbe>Falcon BMS Keyfile Manual
Kolbe has done a real good job here, highly recommended.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. Funny thing is, I HAD a Foxy profile that ran NWS perfectly, BUT, it didn’t change FOV via the hat switch. I’m very dependent on FOV changes. So I changed profiles, and now I can’t find that one that had working NWS commands. If I could find that again, I’d copy that section of code over to one that allows me to change FOV via the hat, and get everything I want.
I even went so far as to load up Falcon Allied Force, and then the original F4, to see if maybe a controller setup issue in BMS was the issue. It was really an eye opener to see just how far we’ve come since the original F4. I hadn’t realized that the changes to the look and feel of the sim were as dramatic as they really are. I guess it seems like less of a change when you have pretty much followed along with all the upgrades and enhancements to come down the pipeline since the early days. Original BMS, then BMS 2, various other mod packs, etc. All made incremental improvements, but the total improvement from the original F4 to BMS 4.32 is far more dramatic than any single upgraded from one version to the next one.
