BRD N - COUGAR (moving)

MOD version for x52 and x52pro
-
I like this concept alot.
-
As mod for x52 or x52pro
here a little precision-test-comparision with my stick (own built)
-
Whoa, that’s awesome precise! I guess no play in the stick at all? Seems like it according to this review. I wonder if it’s possible to use this gimbal but with the stick’s own electronics? In the review, the guy used his WH grib, but used the BRD electronics.
-
No play!
Here are the problems and challenges:
- a very very very minute mechanical play anywhere in the gimbal-area (or any other internal moving part) translates to much higher “play” on the top of stick (leveler arm effect)
- friction anywhere can cause wear and tear and makes the “feel” less precise aswell
- the sensor must be aswell very accurate (resolution and Hz) in order to register displacements accuratly - and void of tear and wear. it also needs the ability of “calibration”.
- the “centering mechanisms” can be technically challanging aswell, while trying to avoid “play”. free floating (resonating) sticks are one option, but the mechanical feel of “centering” is handy too.
- the tension!! (resistance of moving) oh boy…! one of the main immersion-aspects. One options are to use linear resistance… another is to use dynamic resistance (the more you pull, the more resistance (force) is required). This way one can better feel… the more Gs = the more displacement and resistance.
the BRD mod is kinda cool, in terms of laser-cut metal-sheets (production cost), ball bearings (play) and the genious! centering mechanism (smooth centering without “hick up” and play)
-
Indeed! I also love the floor-mounted option, excellent for helo sims or for the upcoming DCS F-14 Tomcat and F-18 Hornet!!

Are they related to the company who made the KG13?

@Red:
Are they related to the company who made the KG13?
Yes. Roman Baur (BRD) aka -=NT=-Baur (the inventor of the above) … did the Baur`s KG 13 Grip aswell. https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/4324-baurs-kg-13-grip/
As far as i know, he is also somehow linked to (or with) VIRPIL now. https://virpil.com/en/blog/79-virpil-controls-and-brd-partnership

Wow…. just wow… big KUDOS to them for making a left-handed grip.
-
Very neat…!

Cool, but does any Airforce support a lefty stick?
-
It’s beyond me why ppl complain because stick is on the left or the right
the human is perfectly able to adapt.
even a left handed can fly with the stick on the right.i fly the stick at right and the throttle on the left on my sim, but i fly the stick centred and the throttle on the right when i fly for real.
I’m not going to ask Diamond airplanes to make a specific aircraft with the throttle on the left, and i’m not switching to the right seat because i’m right handedimho, it’s bollocks
that left handed stick should be 3x as expensive as the regular one, because the buyers really ask for being ripped off
imho -
@Red:

To second Red Dog statement, I am left handed and I fly with the right hand => That is absolutely not a problem. Fortunately … imagine if Dassault, Airbus or LM had to create specific cockpit for left/right handed pilots! … and what if on an Airbus the PF is left handed and the OPF is right handed ? … or the opposite …

True, the human can adapt… but why the hate for them for making a LH stick? Why the hate for having this as an option? Just chill, guys.
Now where’s that LH throttle to complete the picture? -
Cool down Ice
I dont read “hate” in these responses, but rather incredulous. We are into realism in the bms pursuit of immersion, yes? So its strikes those who have RL GA experience as plucky or cheeky to tune an a/c to ones handedness.
The cost effective solution is to have Lefties sit in the cockpit backwards.
-

My apologies for the mistake, but whether it be hate or incredulity (is that the proper word usage?), I still don’t get it. I am fully aware of left-/right-seats in GA aircraft (pilot/co-pilot seats) and I am fully aware that one has to adapt…. but this is a consumer product for use in a hobby, so why the negative reaction? Sure, we can’t tell Boeing or Airbus or other aircraft manufacturers to adjust to left-handed users, but what does that have to do with how a person enjoys his simulation in his own home?
It’s no skin off anyone’s nose anyway… you don’t like it? Don’t buy it. All I’m saying is kudos to them for catering to the LH crowd… even though the picture is incomplete without a right-hand throttle to complete a LH-HOTAS system.
The cost effective solution is to have Lefties sit in the cockpit backwards.
Hahahahahaha…. that is a good one!
-
I get what you’re saying Ice, and agree on the consumer aspect; but im just saying be cautious about labels such as “hate” in this PC intolerant society we are in these days. We get enough of that thin skin junk out there in RL. Dont need it here in our VL band of brothers world, yes?
Thanks for appreciating my wry humor, most of the time its only genius to me. But you got to admit, it brings a whole new meaning to “Check Six!”

What??? That statement is pure genius!!
“Hate” may have been a strong word… but just didn’t get why there was a negative reaction at all…
-

Now where’s that LH throttle to complete the picture?indeed where did i say i hate them?
I have no reason to and i am a strong defender of the philosophy “if it’s stupid but works for you it isn’t stupid”.
nevertheless a forum is a mean to share opinions good or bad, negative or positive.
