SITREP - Viper4 is 2 F16C-50’s. Weasel4 is 2 F16C-50’s. Viper is on BAI while Weasel is TARCAP.

Viper4 is listed first in the package. Then Weasel4.

To Datalink with Viper while I’m in Weasel I hit the list button, then press the 6 button, then to swap to the AA page with aircraft addresses I hit the DCS (4 way) right, then put 11 in slot 5 and 12 in slot 6. Then I return to the CNI page, move to the left MFD’s radar page, change the ASGN to CONT and hit “IFF OUT”. Now I have everybody in my package showing up on radar (when they get infront of me) and I can see them with relation to me on the HSD page. And if they happen to target something I can see it on my displays.

It’s the AA Tacan range that’s giving me trouble. If everybody in my package stays in the air then everything is fine. I’m trying to get a handle on WHY when VIPER4 dissappears my reading of range for Weasel41 goes blank. Since Viper4 is the first flight in my package it gets the first set of AA tacan stations, 12-22-75-85. My flight being Weasel4 gets the second set of stations, 13-23-76(Weasel41)-86. So to get ranging info. on my flight lead (I still refuse to fly lead) I use the DED from the CNI page and press the 1 button, T/ILS, press 0 if I am looking at the X band to change to the Y band, then put in 76. If the first line on the DED says it’s in TR mode (ground station reciever in AI land), I press the DCS right to change to the AA station reciever, and then the DCS left for the CNI page.

Everybody agree with my story so far? Here’s the catch. Once Viper4 ran home (both members of my flight have bagged a SU-30 each) and landed my AI leader decided our job was done some 100+nm from home, so rtb. I glanced at my DED and now I no longer have range on my leader. Did it switch off? NO. It changed frequency to 75Y.

My question now is WHY? Is it due to some code job that says since Weasel4 is the only member of the package now that it needs to change to the first station set? THERE ARE TWO FLIGHTS IN MY PACKAGE. Ok, we started out with two. But why should it change?

I’ve noticed a similar change in radio traffic when I started out as a higher digit, loose x flight members, and then my new position is assumed by all as lead … say.

Anyone have any good suggestions, other than to run the flight lead course and stop flying with AI? Is there a community fix I’m not aware of?

I didn’t even know AI would participate in A/A TACAN. I thought it might but I could never find the right channels.

I see what you mean that AI are dynamically changing A/A TACAN address mid-flight. That’s interesting. Was it a TE or a campaign? I don’t know if there’s a fix. Programmer maybe thought that keeping only the lowest sets of TACAN use occupied fixes or prevents some problem. Is A/A TACAN by AI only your package or theater-wide?

          Hi Babite,

It could be that when Viper lands its flight and shortly after removes itself from 3D, the code may interpret the package as single flight, which shifts certain values (TCN/IDM? etc) towards position 1. It could be the code is built this way, and the shift is not necessarily intentional…

          Thanks for your report.

          Cheers,
          Scub

Frederf - They only participate as far as they give you ranging data. You don’t get the HSI to point at them like you would with one of the two tankers. I was involved in a cam-PAIN flight, wasn’t my own making.

3x1+ hour flights in one day … and the planning behind it. My planning room has seen me too much in one day.

Scuby - That was my thought, but what do I know?
