Virtual Reality (VR) and BMS.

Not sure if that has been posted before, anyone tried “FlyInside” on BMS?
A software what allows VR for sims without native VR support ( like X-plane 11, Prepare 3D and FSX) ?

If not… would it be (is it?) possible to use VR in BMS with 3rd party software of any other kind - like…:
https://www.trinusvirtualreality.com/ or https://flyinside-fsx.com/
or other?

PS: For those who missed it - Pimax !

hmm looks like some have it already working somehow…

that won’t give real 3D immersion, there’s no offset between the left & right eye view fool your brain in creating a 3D feeling.

But is good start, hope that guy tells how he make it.
Or maybe we get offical support from BMS team. (Maybe that youtube guy is one of coders ) ??

In another one of his video’s (
) he mentions:Position and head Tracking is homemade Arduino Edtracker with free Edtracker software and free Opentrack program, and software used for pseudo VR is free Reshade with SuperDepth3D Depth Map Based 3D post-process shader v1.9.8 for Reshade 3.0

x-plane 11 will have native 3d/VR support in the next update (11.20 I believe), you can already test the beta if you tell the installer to also include beta updates.
I tried it on a friend’s rig a few weeks ago using the included Cessna on a OR CV1, looked nice but still too low-res IMHO.
All the best, Uwe

Flyinside doesn’t support BMS. There’s a request in the developer’s forum for it - feel free to add your name. There are several significant barriers to getting BMS in VR.
- Good head tracking - OpenTrack works well, but can get wonky at unusual angles)
- side-by-side 3D image generation. You can do this with Tridef, but it is extremely graphically expensive and can’t come close to the 90 FPS needed for good VR. BMS doesn’t generate a depth map for Reshade’s Superdepth shader. Trinus gets a SBS image onto your phone, but can’t generate one on its own. Nvidia 3D vision can generate 3D SBS, but you need a compatible monitor. Vorpx doesn’t work with BMS.
- HUD and HMCS are not collamated to the correct distance - the HUD appears too close.
- The external model visible from the cockpit is separate from the cockpit model, making the scaling off in 3D
- The 2D interface is challenging to work with in VR.
Several folks have been working on this for some time, but without some external help (Flyinside, Vorpx), or an unreasonable amount of effort from the devs, I don’t see it happening. You can use Opentrack and VR Toolbox to get a good 2D VR effect.

- I am using OpenTrack with my Samsung Odyssey and I don’t see any wonky angles. It is very important to changes the filter parameters, the default config adds a lot of lag.
- I don’t use SBS images, just Virtual Desktop with the native resolution of Odyssey display * 1.5 and the Headlock option enabled. I tried to use tridef to add stereoscopy effects but looks like fake 3d movies (I hate that effect) and drops the performance a ~30%, the Power 3d doesn’t work at all.
- Because I don’t use 3d/SBS, I don’t have problems here.
- Again no 3d/sbs, no problems.
- Yes the 2D interface is a shit in flat monitor aswell.
In short, I’m playing at 90 fps with good image quality (1.5 pixels density) and a similar experience to the one you can have in DCS. The image is not real 3d (for that we would need the images of 2 separate cameras the same amount as our IPD) but after a couple of minutes your brain doesn’t notice the differences.

Anyone have experience with Pimax?
I am looking at getting a Samsung Odyssey or Pimax (better FOV and resolution) for my 1st VR head set. It seems like Odyssey can work with BMS, at least functioning as a monitor strapped to your head. Odyssey seem like an all inclusive device that I have been looking for, 6 DOF with 1 to 1 tracking and OK resolution (reduced screen door effect) in one device. I have a very small area for gaming and don’t want to clutter it with devices (trackir and other sensors). Having 3D objects in stereoscopic effect is not important as long as the device can function like a monitor in game.
I’m not trying to put down Pimax, but a real concern I have about Pimax is that it is a small company in China and they might be just trying to capitalize on the VR buzz to make a quick buck. Their hardware seems awesome, but does software for the device play an important role in VR (I don’t know much about VR yet)? If so, would Pimax keep supporting their product once it’s out, or are they going to move on to their next (more profitable) project/hardware? If software is as important as hardware for VR devices, I don’t want to have a very expensive paper weight after 1-2 years of purchasing the device.

I am a backer of the 8k Pimax headset. Seems we are getting closer to delivery but they have blown through some expected dates as expected.
