Ooohkay!!!
Did some test’s\research this AM on the supposed 256sets\4096tiles limit……
Looked at Jammers rewrite of the TerrTex.cpp back in 2003.
/***************************************************************************\ TerrTex.cpp
xxxx “Jammer” xxxxxxxxx
15Oct03- Begin Major Rewrite
***************************************************************************/
(This one Jammer,don’t know if it’s current though???)
Could NOT find a MIN\MAX DEFINE on sets\tiles.Saw a MAX of 1024 for size though.
So I decided to rewrite the BIN in Hawaii and import a BUNCH of set’s\tile’s in Monster’s tool and see if it coughed.It didn’t:
:shock:
Then,I filled out the set’s with random tile’s to exceed 4096 tile’s to see how the .exe handled it……Guess what???..it did not cough either!!!:
It rendered what I thought it would in the bubble(the random tiles).
Though this NEED’s further testing,I truly believe we are safe to exceed the norm’s in BMS.
In conclusion,what we have been told from “YKW’s” site for year’s is, I believe, BS.The “Sky is the Limit”……hahahaha!!!

demerWell I don’t really think you can blame anyone over there. They would have NO idea that there may have been a code change in BMS. Just like they probably don’t know there has also been a code change in FF that allows for more than what has been posted in the years past at PMC, and/or information updated.
Also, you are not even using half your tiles which would lead me to believe you are using way below 256 sets so that could possibly be why BMS is not puking on it. Use them all and then see.(further testing, I know)

Yes,I agree,the newer .exe’s seem to not be loading the entire list as in year’s past.Hence, I think only those that are ahead or in your “Bubble” ATM,I think,and Jammer\Baldeagle correct me if I’m wrong,the rest are dropped from Memory til’ called again???Maybe they are….DUNNO ATM!!!Some,like the “SEATILE” are used +one million time’s in game,in that case it only load’s\read’s in that ONE Tile ONE time.
Soooooo…if this is the case with the newer .exe’s. I cannot see a problem.
If so,I cannot see a LIMIT on tile’s\set’s in Falcon…!!!(you know I’ll push it, if there is…HAHAHA:twisted:)Enjoy your Vaca’mation and catch sum’thin,

Demer,
what is that application in your picture above “BIN Editor V3.4.2”? I don’t recognize that….?Thx!

if you need any info, I live in Maui so feel free to ask.

Demer,

Sherlock,
That is an app made by Paul Neave that allow’s you to compare imagery from two different map source’s.In this case Yahoo! maps and BING(formally MS VE).
I use it because, some of the imagery from NASA\WorldWind is not color corrected.Some of them are just “colorized” Landsat images.This way I can clean-up\match the NASA images.demer

Thanks Dave! Sounds cool.

Thanks Dave! Sounds cool.
Yeah,it’s waay cooool!!! PLUS I think the code is open source.Meaning that a few change’s here or there,and a quick recompile of the Flash app.Then you may be able to compare imagery from a lot more source’s(e.g.,GeoEye,Google,i-Cube…etc.)
hehehe……“Pirates we be’,scourge of the Seven Sea’s” :rofl:

Got some DVD’s from the USGS a few day’s ago (just have to pay S&H) for OAHU.
NOTE: these are all public domain and in TruColor…hehehe.
VERY detailed imagery and the file size’s are huge(i.e.you need either a ton of RAM or a HUGE Page File set for PS).Sooo… I decided to replace the NASA\VE tile’s with these…:
Screen Shot’s to come once I have the coast’s done……;):)
Your thought’s???

You asked…:rolleyes:…and since I jump in here once a day or so I’d like to comment, also since I always liked the idea to fly a Falcon mission over Hawaii. And spent endless time reading about texture and theatre creation in modded IL-2.
I think those tiles look kickass, if you manage to insert them convincingly into the 3D world.
My question is-and IMHO that could be interisting for FF as well-what are the limits of populating the tiles with Falcon buildings on top on some selected areas like e.g Honolulu?We have 2011 now and it sort of gets tiring to fly a Falcon mission (no matter which Falcon) over a RL city with nothing than textures and a few houses (fubar ugly ones) below. Honolulu is a massively populated town nowadays and if BMS managed to get the discussed object multiplicating features in-that would make som much of a better immersion. For that alone I’d be willing to invest a little cash in an upgraded rig…no, not really, but in the future.
Photorealistic textures are really a kickarse thing but it gets really interisting once buildings are placed on top…of course only where it makes sense. Big Island e.g. might well go with some really cool textures (imagine the big volcanos there!)…AFAIK
Same at Molokai, Lanai or Kauai…I assume Oahu is the focus of that theatre?I recall having read here that the BMS guys plan to integrate an option for forest on top of tiles in the future. Imagine a sort of rain forest for that theatre-that would rock.:D
Another IMHO important fact are the stunning airbases even visible very prominently from satellite views. It would really make sense to pupulate all airfields with some dedicated strips, buildings-so that they can all be used.
A common error made when using satellite imagery:
The color tone and saturation seen from the zoomed in satellite view is always much more dull and less “fleshy”/vivid than what you see when you actually jump into the scenery-Google street view always amazed me when jumping from sat to “ingame” (lol) at Hawaii.
So much lush green, so many colours, such a vivid coast!If you can grab a touch of all that-you’re da man!
Sorry for typos, late night, time for chillout flight here in Germ.-
OK carry on…don’t forget some bigwave spots at Waiamea and Jaws:mad::uham: -
Wow Dave, used “really” about 100 times in the above monologue. Hope you got it anyway… hints etc…hasta la vista, see you.
Time to hit the deck for today.Tom

demerMan u r killing us here. FLARE ain’t out yet and u are making a step forward???
It’s a mad house here…
FALCON DREAM PARADISE IN HAWAII…
JUST A TEASE PLEASE. EVEN A SMALL ONE.

Hrrrr NICE JOB, Demer Demer… i guess we soon have to open a Teamspeak-Whiskey

Your already there M8!!! Just need to get the coast’s done!!!
@Arty,this is not a FLARE Project,let him do what he doe’s.Very nice IMHO……!!! NO teasing
@Thor,Remember what I said about PM’ng…me!!!HUH,Huh??HAHAHA…??? JK M8.
I’ll get some in game Screen Cap’s maybe this weekend, then see where we go from there on PR Tile’s.
I NEED to remind you all though,that all those “PRETTY” Road tile’s need to have PATH’s defined on them,otherwise it’s a NoGo for GU’s in falcon…!!! Anyone up for that???..HAHAHA!!!Mother Dave

Demer… great job.
my 0.002c for defining path data on tiles :
-grab a Hawaii map, mark the MAIN roads - and simplify the road network for campaign purpose. Based on this simplified road network, add path data on tiles. the fewer roads, the easier job.
-since you use PR tiles, the path data/start-end points on tiles, could differ from tile to tile and blow pathmaker tool, or bin file. we’ve no experience in such all PR tile case. you may consider simplify the path definition…or strictly follow SAT image road and create tortuous path… the connection of path data between tiles should be as precise as possible. -
Finally rivers NOT flowing antigravitish over mountains.
-
Lol. basically meant:…good job on the tiles, dunno whatever you mean with pm’ing.
Guess Falcon dudes are a crazy bunch by default. Whatever.Look forward to this theatre. Back to workout.
-
@ccc,
Kinda’ did that with the new build of Libya for BMS.(Will HAVE to do that here)
The old RDLINE.E00 was bad enuff",the new RDLINE.E00 is worse…(1000’s of “roads” going nowhere in the sand)
So for Libya, I simplified the road network and made new tile’s\paths.
I have not heard from RAMbro’ whether it has compromised GU movement.(He already yelled at me for giving him the unlinked Map…HAHAHA…oop’s!!!)
BTW your 0.002cts is worth alot more than that old man@******{[(>>>>[SIZE=1]A.S<<<<<)]}******Maybe???
@Tom……LOL,your right!!!
