Helios profiles and keyfiles…
-
Oh, how do I start here… I guess my big picture is probably the best place. Relative newbie, but have been at this (setting up BMS, Cougar, touchscreen) for almost 3 months now. I’ve been back-and-forth and back-and-forth again through the forums scouring different articles and posts to help me.
I have the game installed and apparently running just fine. I have a triple monitor setup and a 4th touchscreen setup to use for activating all switches, gear handle, etc. I have a used Cougar TQS and Cougar joystick that also appear to work fine so far. I am attempting to use Ice’s Helios profile and YAME setup for the touchscreen part and I am making progress on implementing that - in fact it appears to be working for the most part. However I only just realized that his profile is for Warthog controllers - not Cougar.
So I don’t fully understand how all the different software programs and files (Helios profile, YAME profile, BMS Keyfile, TARGET profile) AFFECT each other. It took so long to finally figure out how to get the Helios to work, YAME to work, the radar cursor button to actually work properly, and a myriad other things that are finally working, that I am extremely hesitant to start experimenting by changing up profiles to get the Cougar correct (like using Dunc’s) when I don’t know they interact! Will changing one setting then change some other setting that will wipe out my hard fought for progress so far?!
I THOUGHT the answer going to be using all Dunc stuff, but then right there in the Dunc‘s Cougar DX Guide, I see these instructions:
Disable any mouse functionality on the Cougar (e.g. microstick):
USE ZERO_MOUSE
DISABLE MOUSE…am I going to screw up my radar cursor now (which took forever to get working)??
Will having to use his Keyfile in BMS now make Ice’s Helios profile not work? (I don’t know how they interact)
And lastly, I read SOMEWHERE that if I use any sort of programming software like Foxy or TARGET it will disable all DX button assignability? Is that right? If so, how do I get shift DX capability…
so many questions… -
Dunc’s profile works ok for me, but i would advice you to change the trim stetting in your bms keyfile. https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?8301-Dunc-s-cougar-profile-Changing-the-default-POV-settings-to-Trim
I use the BMS full keyfile with some changes.

Zero, not sure if I got your problem right, but if you change something in your keyfile, Helios will recognize that change as long as you use there the same keyfile as in BMS.
Concerning TARGET you only have to take care that the changes are made there as well.
See you current keyfile as the master:
All changes there shall go from there to the ‚clients‘. Not vice versa.
At least that‘s the way I‘m evolving my config. All overall the configs are kinda hard to screw up.
As always: Save your working config-files and then make improvements on them.
