Cougar repaint

I’d be interested to know if/how you get the thing back to bare metal before any refinish, please
-
Sandpaper? Paint stripper? Little of both?
-
You can buy blank decal sheets for inkjet or laser printers, but how many printers will print white? In use though, after you get used to the layout, you won’t ever look at the labels again. I understand wanting it to look original if possible.
Regular printers injjet or laser can’t print white. White is the absence of colour for a printer
You have to use an ALPS printer for that.On the real throttle, it’s engraved, so it’s easy to get it back white

I tried several different paint-strippers, a hot air gun, and a gas blowlamp - none of which touched it (Warthog stick). My last option is to take it to a mate to have it sand-blasted.

Maybe it’s powder coated instead of painted. Don’t know what that means as far as stripping, I’m not an expert on finishes. Sand blasting will get the finish off for sure, but will likely eat into the metal to some extent IMO.

Yep, but that will be quite visible.

Agreed. I wouldn’t bother trying to do the labels if I needed to paint one.
-
If I were to do it, I would create a Template masks with a vinyl cutter or with photoetch and spray it white, Simply

Thanks for all the help/suggestions people.
Will post some pics when i get it done
Cheers,
