Thrustmaster just told me that the Cougar is comming back
-
will the fssb products bring a throttle or stick back to life ie new programming. just asking as i have a dead cougar that i cant flash….win7 issue i guess
Depends on what’s dead. FSSB only manages the input as the stock potentiometers do. It doesn’t replace the PCB that manages the input to usb part. So if you can’t flash it, it’s probably the PCB and not the controls part, so FSSB wouldn’t resolve the issue.
Unfortunately Thrustmaster doesn’t have spare PCB’s left :s I have one broken too, contacted their tech service for replacement parts but PCB’s are not available anymore… -
ok thx fd, do use fssb and how do you like it ? what ver. R1 or R2?
-
Yes, I have an FSSB r1; second hand. Very fond of it.
If you have the spare change, go for r2 though. -
Nice! ok also do you recommend the throttle usb mod? also later i will post the problem i have which seems to mess up the cougar when changing windows axes state. is the reason my cougar died, have searched on it and not found similar issue
thx fd -

thx fdYes, I like the TUSBA. Separate USB connection, no cable running from the throttle to the stick base, and refined detail in the pots.
I also have the RUSBA for my simpeds, but haven’t tried it yet. -

What products are being developed for the WARTHOG and COUGAR HOTAS users?I would like to see:
1. the original vision for the Cougar to be realized, that being different aircraft sticks (FSS) to plug into the Cougar or WartHog bases. Both WW2 and modern fighters.
2. Second generation F16-TQS USB to go with the Warthog FSS.
3. Integrate FFB into the WH-TQ and not into the FSS as to not disturb force sensing mods (FCC3 and FSSB-R3).
4. Update TARGET to handle USB rudders into its combined controller

**Thrustmaster Thanks for the input! I will forward it to the dev team. Regards.

Im suspecting that the ‘really good news’ is a response to the title of the thread, actually.

Duh!
… wow - I am around here since day one and before, but even so I am rather proud for having been able to translate all those abbrevations out of my head… If some are wrong, please correct me.
But what the hell means “FSS” - I know it refers to the flight stick part of an HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick: a set of throttle and flight stick), but what does this abbrevation stand for? I remember it as Force Sensing Stick, but that does not seem to be what is meant here.Maybe we should be a tiny little more careful when using such a lot of abbrevations, so the average reader has at least a remote chance to make any sense out of it. Heck - it was even hard for me
What I would like to see from Thrustmaster is an updated USB version of the F-16 throttle, so it can be freely combined with different sticks.
High quality stick bases with no need for further modification. Be it (an iteration of) the Warthog with the addition of a force-sensing stick base (Cougar 2.0).
Let the moving base have (optional, so can be disabled) force feedback - I see no reason for considering 3rd party mods here. Those must not be needed for the new products anyway.Last but not least:
Rock steady software and drivers, so set up goes easy.
I still remember the first months with the cougar and it still hurts just thinking of it. 'Til today I barely dare to disconnect + reconnect it in fear of something may not work afterwards.Considering what users pay for the orginal product and the mods, it should be very well possible to develop a quality product well within this price range which does not need to be modded.
Greets.

G’day!
No, I disagree. Making the one product that does not need to be modded, means it will be very expensive - and in turn, if it cannot be produced in sufficient numbers, it will not turn a profit. The economy of scale is not going to work, here.
If you could get maybe a couple thousand users willing to pay $800 to $1000 for a stick, then perhaps you could get somewhere.
-
Fair point. But the Warthog seems to be almost perfect having hall sensors and seamless center. From what I read just the quality could be a little better in the details, so it becomes perfectly smooth without any mods. And it isnt even close the price of a modded cougar.
I see no reason why a force sensing stick would be that much more expensive. Even if you go as high as 400 to 600 Euros, you’d still be far away of current modding costs.
I’d rather pay a bit more to get a quality product. And quite a few think this way: How many u-1, u-2, u2next, fcc, fssb mods have been sold?
And dont forget the troubles that result from low quality products for a company.By no means I’d ever be willing to repeat this cougar journey: If a company asks several hundred euros for a low quality product suggesting I might mod it to get it right, then they may keep it for themself!!

Rather doubt it. He has been out of the loop for awhile now.

AFAIK its the Midori QP-2HC.
No guarantee and I wouldn’t know where to buy, though.
check six!

Here there are. Obviously the single shaft model.
http://www.midoriamerica.com/products_detail.php?eid=00005&category=Angle+Sensor&turn=Single+TurnCubby bought them. Why is it so hard for us to find a seller ?

Well, I guess that depends on how much of the cost of the FCC-3 or equivalent is replicated in the stock cougar.
And no, 600 euros is about what you should be paying for a cougar plus mod. What mods are you thinking of, that cost more than 600 euros?
Im no stranger to the woes resulting from low quality, my first stick was a Saitek… and the X-65F had some pretty noteworthy quality issues.

If all else fails, call Midori America and find out who distributes.

it used to be 300+ for a stock cougar + 3xx for new gimbals + around 150 for 3 hall sensors. Together that is in the 800.
An FSSB R2 is 450 alone…anyway. doesnt matter.
